I'm well aware of the stats. I also know that stats alone don't tell the whole story. Coop racked up huge numbers early in the year with bubble screens and quick throws while we were getting Sims settled in. Now he's still clearly the #1 option on each play, and more often than not he beats his coverage so he's obviously going to get the ball. But the passing game has been much more diverse as of late.

Yea that too. Pretty cool that Coop can do that by himself against 11 defenders. Hell of a one trick pony.

Why teams haven't copied OM and Arkansas' mold and doubled him, I will never know.

I saw someone say he was better than Julio

Julio to me is the model NFL WR. I haven't followed much Bama, but Cooper doesn't seem like prototypical NFL receiver although very talented. I think he will obviously do well specifically yards after catch etc. Is this way off base?

Cooper runs better routes and has better hands. Julio is a freak. Cooper is probably the better college WR.. which is crazy

I think Cooper is going to struggle in the NFL early. He struggled against Ole Miss being physical at the LOS. He's got all the polish in the world in CFB though.

Most young receivers take a year or two to get adjusted to the NFL, so it wouldn't be a surprise if he wasn't awesome right off the bat. Julio and AJ Green are some recent exceptions because those dudes are just physical freaks.

To paraphrase what Mike Zimmer said about Cordarelle Patterson a couple of week's ago, if the other receivers want the ball, tell them to get open.

Coop is consistently open. Keep feeding him.

Some real ignorance in this thread...

The OP makes a good observation. Either our other WR's aren't getting open, or we aren't looking for them enough. I tend to think it's the latter, which would make sense with a new QB who is also mobile.

To say that we have no running game or that we are a "one trick pony" is pretty ridiculous. It's not whether you stop Amari, it's HOW you stop Amari (if you do). Our running game is not what it was in some previous years, but it's stout. If you have aren't solid against the run because you need numbers in the secondary, you will probably dislike the result.

This team is not as dominant in any aspect of the offense, but it's very, very balanced. You won't stop Alabama by dedicating your defense to one area, but by playing disciplined and effective and forcing Alabama to make long drives where our inexperience will kick in and we get penalties and turnovers.

Yep, it's a mystery why a team like Tennessee would try to play the guy straight up. It's a losing proposition.

yeah he doesn't fit that mold to me of a big physical receiver. I don't think either of those guys had the run after catch ability of Cooper. Your 1 to 2 year development story makes sense.

I don't know how anyone could dispute this. IMHO, Cooper is the better college player, but Julio will have a better pro career.

Tennessee tried that, tried playing man, tried it all. None of it worked. Kiffin moved him around and found matchups that worked.

It isn't as simple as just putting 2 up and bracketing him. Kiffin has done well in most games moving him into the slot, out of the backfield, all sorts of stuff. If you zone the area and he comes inside you are stuck with an awful matchup.

Arkansas did a good job out wide but they also blew us up at the LOS, which is the real reason for all our issues.

Julio also had some problems with drops for a stretch of his Bama career. The same is happening with OJ Howard for some reason - he's not "soft", he has stone hands this year.

I'm just saying that Bama will need more than one receiver to beat the best secondary in the SEC (and basically the best in the country).

We have more than one receiver, we just have a QB who does not have the experience to go through his progressions consistently.

But fortunately, we also have a running game, so you won't be able to shut us down by loading up on Cooper.

Not to mention he can run.

This makes me feel a little better about our chances. Hopefully Chavis brings the pressure like he did against Ole Miss.

Your backs are infinitely better of course.
