The AP also presents a trophy. Bama now has 10, the most of any other team.
The NFF/College Football Hall of Fame presents the MacArthur Bowl to the winning team. This trophy is to be kept by the winning team for one year until the next champion. Names of the winning teams are engraved on it. This will be Bama's 8th time to win, the most of any other team.

The Crystal Ball was the Coaches Poll trophy. It predated the BCS. The BCS was linked to the Coaches Poll, via contract, it went into the computer rankings and the winner of the BCSNC was guaranteed to win the Coaches Poll by agreement. The BCS didn't actually have its own trophy, they gave the Coaches Poll trophy.
The CFP does not have such an arrangement, it is determined by committee completely separated from the polls. So it has its own trophy. The Coaches Poll still exists and the trophy is still given to the winner of the Coaches Poll.

I like that idea. Make it like the Stanley Cup. Add Ohio State from last year and Alabama for this year. Alabama keeps it until the next CFP Championship. They have to win it all over again to keep it or have to give it up to the next time

Keep giving schools the current trophy so they have something good they can permanently put in their trophy case, but create a new trophy that they can only keep for a year. Don't allow them to create replica trophies to keep the new one special. Want to see it in person? Go to the CFB HOF or to who currently holds it.

I agree. It's gonna kill y'all's recruiting. Kids are going to get one look at that ugly-arse statue and decide they don't want to have to see that as they walk past it every day for the next 3-4 years.

Looks terrible. They should just buy out the coach's poll and own the rights to the crystal ball. That thing is sweet and should be what is hoisted after the natty.

The CFP needed a new trophy for branding purposes. It's the start of a new era for college football.
I agree that the crystal ball trophy is better. The AP trophy is nice, too.

It really does. There's no reason they should've left the crystal. They used it long before the BCS ever existed.
