It's simple math really. By choosing 4 teams to compete for the NC, you have a much better shot of guessing who amongst the 4 teams is the # 1 team. With the BCS, you tried to align #1 vs #2 but that did not always work. What happened if the #1 team lost? You would award the #2 team the BCS? It was a mess. It is not perfect now but it is better.

I would go to 6 team playoff. the top two teams get a bye. The highest ranked team from each P5 conference gets automatic spot, and highest ranked non-P5 team gets a spot. i think this eliminates the conference bias aspect.

you could make an exception if the highest ranked team in a P5 conference or non-P5 had 3 or more losses, or played a really weak schedule. The highest ranked team on the bubble would then get a spot.

This year, the likely match up would be Washington vs Penn State and Okla vs Ohio State.

Alabama would get lowest ranked team in the next round.

8 team playoff or die
people calling for 8 team playoff are morons, simple as that. I'd rather go back to the BCS than that. Plus, how could the NCAA possibly justify all the safety based rules that are fricking up the sport and then add in yet another round of games to be played?

I like 4, I just think it eliminates a lot of controversy.

However, if I had my way we would keep the BCS exactly as it was and just take 1-4. Having a small committee made up of humans with their own biases just doesn't sit well with me, although I suppose I can't say they've done anything egregiously wrong yet.

I'm 100% with you here WG. I liked the format of the BCS. I thought it got it right pretty much every year, but even the years that it was a bit controversial, expanding it to 4 teams would have solved the problems in those years. The BCS with a 1-4 playoff would be the ideal way to do it.

And to the idiots that always bitch about no transparency in the computers, they did that so that you wouldn't have coaches playing specifically to pad the things needed to get the edge in those polls. I completely agree with the secret nature of the computers.
