I didn't click the link but I don't see how taking 4 teams instead of just 2 could be a bad thing.

Does he say anything substantial? I happen to prefer the BCS to the playoff, but in the bits that I read, he didn't say anything that didn't just seem like pure whining. Then he had the gall to call it "data" at the end.

I prefer the BCS over the playoff, but college football fans all but demanded a playoff. Now we have it and folks are still bitching and whining.

You can't satisfy everybody.

P.S. I do agree that the scheduling is stupid as frick. The semis should be the Saturday before Christmas, and the finals should be new year's day.

I like 4, I just think it eliminates a lot of controversy.

However, if I had my way we would keep the BCS exactly as it was and just take 1-4. Having a small committee made up of humans with their own biases just doesn't sit well with me, although I suppose I can't say they've done anything egregiously wrong yet.

I could live with your setup, but prefer the BCS.

I'm a traditionalist at heart, and I hate what corporate money has done to the sport I loved as a child.

That said, if the alleged purpose is to crown a 'true' champion like they do in other classifications of football (and in the pros) then there really isn't any reason not to realign the conferences and create a true 8-team playoff. Use the current system to select the participants, but play the first two rounds at the home stadiums of the higher seeds, sometime between the first Saturday in December and New Years Day. NC game a week later.

CFB is already being turned into NFL-lite, why not go all the way.

too many. If after 12 regular season games and conference champ weekend you're still in 8th place, you've done something along the way to lose yoru shot at the title. The undefeated #1 team and the however many loss 8th place team shouldn't be on the exact same even footing for a title, otherwise what was the point of the regular season?

Then the argument is "well it excludes conference winners. Take all the P5 champs and 3 at large". Ok...well what if VT had somehow upset Clemson this year, they'd get an auto-bid for the national championship which they damn sure wouldn't deserve.

4 is perfect. It expands from 2 which allows teams that legit deserve a shot a chance (ala 04 Auburn) but it's still keeping the sanctity of the regular season.

I thought the 4 team playoff would be superior to the BCS but I actually prefer the old 2 team BCS system better now.

The 4 team playoff is fine though, I'm content.

An 8 team playoff will absolutely ruin the college football regular season. It will go from the best, most meaningful regular season in all of sports to just another hohum regular season.

But moron fans don't car,e they just want a big playoff so THEIR team has a better chance of making it.

frick the participation trophy bullshite. You want in the playoff? EARN IT. Win your damn games. Don't go 9-3 and complain about missing out.

I want an eight team playoff for selfish reasons.

Negative Nancy had a deadline for an article and couldn't come up with anything constructive.

Nah. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the current Alabama + 3 Teams model. Pretty much perfect.

It would be an extra home game for Bama and three other teams.

Second round=Peach or Fiesta Bowl

Championship=Sugar Bowl or Rose or whoever's turn it is.

I am not sure how old you are, but it was corporate money that gives all us the chance to watch our teams every week. When I was a little kid and a brand new "Bammer", I had to listen a lot of games on the radio. There just wasn't enough slots to cover everybody. Back then they used to say that Bama was the most televised team in the country. I am sure it isn't so anymore. I am speaking 35 years ago, before the Notre Dame and NBC contracts. So it must've really sucked for the rest of the teams. I for one think the influx of money has not only raised the visibility of everybody's team, and has also raised the level of play, and has been great for the sport. It is way better now than then.
