The real question- is that enough for him to keep his job?

I think so, yes. Depends on how they play. Even on a shitty 5-7 team full of freshmen last year, you could see what they can be. They're very fast, very athletic, and very physical.

He has all the components in place except for a QB which they think they have in Buechele and a couple of DL. A decent QB last year would've made a world of difference for their season. That's all they really need to flip that shite-show around completely. I'm just being objective here.

'13 - 12-1 (Russell Athletic Bowl Champions)

That's a pretty good record while at Louisville.

-They have no quarterback (still don't after 2 full seasons)

-They have no depth at all at defensive line and their best DLinemen just left for the NFL

-Their best defensive player is an outside linebacker with concussion problems playing way out of position at MLB

They lost 24-0 to a BAD Iowa State team in Ames. 24 to ZERO.

Pretty sure I covered all that, cochise. I said they need a QB and DL. That's what they need.

Sooo, 2 of the 3 most important position groups on the field they are devoid of talent/experience. Yep, they're close.

If they go 8-4, it will be because of the joke of a conference they're in, not because they are good at football.

I remember when that was the case going into our 2005 season, when we had a similar coach to Strong. Started the year ranked 17th and Kirk Herbstriet had us as a DARK HORSE candidate to win the National title.

Well? What happened?

Sorry, was just alerting to the topic he and Spears were getting into rather heavily, assuming those really interested might want to tune in.

I prefer reading a brief snippet here than having to watch the show.

It is pretty awful around this time of year.

Okay, Last hour Jeremy Crabtree of ESPN recruiting for the Texas area went into detail about how Strong has quickly gained momentum on Sumlin in Texas HS recruiting. Said this past Feb. TExas and A&M were both neck in neck on 5 top Texas HS recruits, with all 5 going with Texas over A&M. That got things going for Strong and then with this latest A&M assistant coach tweeting fiasco with the decommitments, etc., things are getting ugly so fast for Sumlin and A&M that recovery may not be possible.

Well that is clearly BS. If we have a good season (10+ wins) anything is possible. It's just UNLIKELY, which is different.

You may be right, these talking heads go out on a limb many times, they don't say a word if wrong, but if right they'll make sure to remind you about it after the fact.

Absolutely. Improving by two wins helps get another decent recruiting class. This whole story is about momentum.

Probably so, but one of those wins would need to come against a LSU or my team, Bama.

You speak with a lot of certainty. I know a guy who is a major Texas booster (his company is one of the top sponsers at DKR) and he tells me nine wins is the bare minimum.

It feels like Sumlin hasn't beaten a team he wasn't supposed to beat since 2012. If he figures out how to get a win against a team that is favored against the Ags, that is something worth taking notice of.

If Strong wins 9, I'll be too happy to care. But your booster friend is wrong. He probably was a guy who stuck with Mack a few seasons too long as well.

I'll try to remember to tell you I told you so when Texas wins 8, Strong keeps his job, and lands another good class.
