we weren't in a position to hire a guy with one year of head coaching experience. our program was in shambles, not the kind of thing you give to an unproven head coach and hope he can fix.

Lol wut? We're not even remotely setup to run Malzahn's system. It will be much easier to transition to Chaney's offense.

Was Arkansas too proud to hire a coach away from Arkansas State??? (nevermind the fact that he was there less than a year)

Serious question.

Your points are valid, but I wouldn't exactly characterize Malzahn as someone lacking experience.
A Malzahn hire at Arkansas wouldn't exactly seem out of the ordinary. To most, it would've been the logical hire.

No one trolls Arky fans better than HogaLewd. Weird.

I've seen some mind blowing things on my way to another star system. Neptune was like a giant swirling black light...no shite, that was the most trippy thing I've seen in my life thus far, even when comparing that to an ice volcano on Io!

I'm nearing the termination shock, and once thru (assuming i survive) i'll cross the heliopause threshold to enter interstellar space. Things look turbulent ahead of my space capsule.

Yet, all of the amazing things I've seen so far and still to come don't compare to the troll job that HogaLewd uses to trap his own kind back on Ocean (more popularly, but incorrectly, referred to as Earth).

You aren't old enough to understand this Imperial.

Btw this is very similar to what happened back wben Petrino was hired when an Arkansas poster renounced his fanhood and became an Ole Miss fan. Regardless of how wrong he actually was. Hog fans always bite and the rant sides with the retard just because we bit.

It is really quite fascinating to watch

Perhaps Chaney's offense will end up being an easier transition. It's a lot easier to run an uptempo offense when you have a decent QB like a Ryan Mallett or a Tyler Wilson.

I have no idea who y'alls QB will be in 2013. It might be a better idea to run the ball 65% of the time.

I'm interested to see who it is also. Brandon Allen and Brandon Mitchell have two completely different styles, will be interesting to see who wins out. I think Allen is better suited for Cheney's offense but Mitchell's athleticism is intriguing.

When your QB moves like hes running in quick sand it is very difficult to run hurry up.

To answer the question we have either a senior dual threat who hasnt been allowed to throw a ball in 2 year or a true Sophomore who got be up due to Klenakis coached OL

Allen can run to. Mostly out of necessity, but he took off and ran a few times last year. Wasn't too shabby.

Gus is/ was the better fit and the proper hire.

Ever wonder why he did not announce Auburn until after we announced or were ready to announce Bielema?

He is out to prove Long wrong and will in the end. I think a lot of boosters do not like him and Long's career will end or expand upon the failure or success of Bret Bielema. No way in hell would I want that if I was an AD at a major university. Especially a coach from the Big whatever coming into the SEC.

So by that logic Saban should have never been hired out of MSU and instead they should have hired a first year coach from ULL.

Edit: I should say hire Mike Leach or someone who was an offensive guru familiar with the SEC

All things being equal, I hope that Bret B. goes with the sophomore. Go with the youth movement.

HawgAlude is doing you Hogs a favor by attempting to temper everyone's expectations for this year. But if y'all bought into what HawgAlude was selling, the Rant wouldn't be what it is today.

if you read our team board you'll see our expectations are getting to a bowl game, given the circumstances that would be a great first year.

Oh come on Imperial, hes not tempering and we all know it. He actually believes we will be 3-9 and that AU will finsh with at least 8 wins.

He is a rather clever troll, but don't let him fool you. Instead pick some careful arguments that will be ignored. You know, mind ninja the troll so it doesn't realize it lost.

You don't know HawgAlude very well if you actually believe this.

When you put it this way, you're also describing most of the Hog posters on the Rant.

Well, tempering was a poor choice of words on my part. He's gone full retard and back again.

The trouble with his predictions is that he may turn out to be correct. I take it to mean that HawgAlude believes Arky will go 0-8 in conference play. While I will not go that far, I think it's a battle for 5th through 7th in the West this year:

-Grinders
-Arkansas
-Auburn

If Auburn has an established QB, I could justify making that prediction. To my knowledge, they do not. Most Ranters seem to have given up on the Grinders, but I don't see them falling down to last place. Where does this leave Arky?

Jeez this thread is full of heads up asses. I've not seen a single hog fan say anything above 6-6 and a low tier bowl at best.

Anywhere between 6-6 and 8-4.

Being from Houston, I was fairly confident of Sumlin's abilities. He was a known quality.

I'm not a sunshine pumper, but I was very confident in Jameill Showers and his skill set.

As it turns out, the back-up ended up taking the job.

The 2011 A&M team could have been a BCS caliber team but for two things: coaching and depth. I didn't buy into the doom and gloom that the media was predicting.

Sherman didn't leave the cupboard bare.

well there ya go. I thought we'd win 10 last year, even with John L. Just goes to show you don't really know, especially when it's a first year head coach with a decent roster, and ours isn't in as bad of shape as people make it out to be. Petrino didn't leave it Sherman loaded but there is talent there, of course QB is a huge question mark.
