Quick question - have you ever been to Austin?

Does LSU have an equestrian team?

shite if I know, I left 20 years ago. But I also never knew there was such a thing as a goat unit, or a beef unit, etc. I assumed whatever the other A&M schools had, we had the same given there is an entire building on campus dedicated to rodeo. I saw horses coming onto one campus or another repeatedly, I clearly didn't know what the hell they were doing there.

One would call it wee bit odd, that the McNeese State Cowboys don't have... eh, rodeo? lol

Is rodeo largely confined to local fairs, high schools and whatnot, and pro, which squeezes demand for college activities? It seems profoundly odd that there isn't more university environment (SFA, etc.)

It’s like asking why don’t our schools have wrestling programs like Mizzou. School probably doesn’t find it feasible unless the students start pushing for it. I think that’s why the rodeo kids at A&M are trying to raise $1M. The only sport I know we’ve been trying to get to qualify to compete D1 is hockey, and that’s been an uphill battle for years. Even with the ice rink and all the money that’s been pumped into it. I wish A&M did men’s soccer too, but we only do club.

Plus, a rodeo is as southern as events get.

It's actually not southern in any capacity at all. It's entirely western and that's not them. It's us, as in those of us west of the Mississippi.

That homefield advantage will be tough to overcome in the Brokeback events.

There are a ton of ranchers kids at A&M, so no surprise with the rodeo. I think it’s pretty great
