Texas A&M to Host Intercollegiate Rodeo

It’s rodeo time guys.
I’m currently trying to find out what schools are participating. I’m 90% sure Auburn will have their cowboys out there.
The team is currently trying to raise $1M to grow the sport and get more teams/schools involved. You guys think this can really take off in SEC country? It would be cool if more SEC schools start competing too.

College rodeo is back in Aggieland!
The Texas Aggie Rodeo Team will host an intercollegiate rodeo March 8-9. The community is invited to watch college rodeo athletes compete for a spot at nationals while enjoying shopping booths, trick riding, and much more.
The rodeo starts on Friday, March 8 at 7 p.m. and continues Saturday, March 9 at 5 p.m. at the Brazos County Expo.

Why stop there? Why not demo derby?

I don’t think we have a rodeo team but I bet you could get some Mississippi farm boys interested

A lot of SEC schools already participate and dominate equestrian. I think Auburn has won the SEC 3 of the past 4 years or something. I want to say SC, Georgia, and State have great equestrian teams, so they probably have the infrastructure to host a rodeo.
Plus, a rodeo is as southern as events get.

Not in the south I grew up in. The rodeo is more western, if anything.

I don’t know how to drive a manual transmission, but I know how to ride a horse. And I’m from Texas. How is that not a Southern thing?

Demo derbies are a much better representation of the SEC. How many of us have/had a pos car they would love to plow into people with, and how many of us have/had a horse to ride on?

I don’t think you can demo derby with a stock 1998 Nissan Sentra or Honda civic. I’d assume you need an old arse 1980 box body Crown Vic, Oldsmobile, or anything with an aluminum frame. Then you have to add roll bars, cage. It’s an investment.

Then weeks later aggy hosts Draggieland 2024, March 28.
This cancels out the "southern as it gets" mantra.
Poor aggy, they try to act straight but just cannot shake their homo heritage.

Best intercollegiate rodeo I’ve been to was at Sam Houston State up in Huntsville. They just opened a nice venue NE of town named after Sonny Sikes. He’s the trailblazer for college rodeo.

I think in the next 3 to 5 years, you might see SEC Rodeo momentum grow. There is a path to get kids on scholarship, compete, and then they can go pro in big time Rodeos. I don’t think bull riding is an event yet, but that would draw a crowd if it was.

Bull riding is an event already. But, it’s a complete mismatch between rank bulls and amateur kids. Very few (like 0) make the buzzer on any given night. The truly talented riders are already trying their hand at the pro levels.

I don't think Auburn has a an Intercollegiate Rodeo Team. Alpha Psi, a Vet Fraternity, use to host a Rodeo every year, but it was more of a party with bands. They have Rodeo Events during the day but it was mostly a big party.
There is still a spring Rodeo in Auburn but I believe it is not hosted by Alpha Psi and at different location. They have Parker McCollum this year. Last year was Koe Wetzel and Zach Bryan.

It sucks here that every Aggie thread has to be derailed, and some gay jokes made. Over and over again, and the same guys complain this board doesn’t have any real discussions. SMH

Sounds like Mansucka is really looking forward to draggieland. He must have been one of the lucky ones and already have his tickets. Enjoy the show child.

The couple of times I went it was a bunch of drunk frat boys trying to ride bulls and broncs and hoping to not get seriously injured.
They also had a goat milking competition for the sorority girls (with the surprise of a couple of young billygoats mixed in). The best part was the rodeo queen pageant - hot sorority girls in thong bikinis, boots and cowboy hats.
