FSU got their coach taken from them, too. FSU is back in the national title picture and aggy is where they always are, a mediocre program where next year is always the year.
OU will be back in the national title hunt, as well. Winning is just sort of something OU has done for decades. Don't have to go take coaches past their prime that won at other schools. OU has done plenty fine hiring coordinators. Maybe aggy can go throw another golden parachute contract at a "splash" hire, or maybe they'll get wise and roll the dice on a hungry up and comer.
Either way, maybe if aggy works really hard, they can have a winning record in conference in back to back years for the first time in 1999-2000. I mean, that seems like something any decent program could accomplish once every 25 years.

It’s a tough job. The only thing making it attractive is the money
Exactly. People misinterpret the “best job” part. This isn’t a ranking of your program or how much you’re getting paid or how much you can pay recruits. It’s about expectations, external pressure and potential.
The Aggies see themselves as a perennial powerhouse and expect those types of results, when they haven’t won even a conference title in 25 years. Now you’ve got Texas and OU added into the conference you’ve never won.
The money is great, but you’ve got Sky high expectations and tons of booster pressure to win a conference with quite a few better programs.
I wouldn’t be shocked if Aggy couldn’t pull Elko for this exact reason. If Duke can come remotely close to the money, it’s a much easier path and much less pressure.

Fans are short sighted. The coaches know much better. The only thing A&M lacks is a coach. And our NIL is better than most schools to boot
You have had some good coaches. One great coach. You have had multiple coaches that have played for or won championships at other stops. Why couldn’t those same coaches that were so successful elsewhere not have the same success at A&M? Since 1954, here are coaches that have won or played for championships elsewhere. You have obviously have had some good coaches. And they couldn’t make it work at A&M. Maybe there are deeper issues? Besides national championship winning coach Jimbo Fisher, A&M has also had the following coaches among others.
Bear Bryant (everyone knows about Bear Bryant)
Gene Stallings only had one winning season in seven seasons at A&M; in seven seasons at Alabama he never had a losing record, won the SEC west 4 out of 7 seasons, finished top 5 three times and won a national championship.
Jackie Sherrill went 50-9-1 at Pitt, finished in the top 10 in 4 of his 5 seasons there; finished 2nd his last two seasons there, played for a national championship; he went to A&M and in 7 seasons he was .500 or below two of them, his highest finish was 6th.
R.C Slocumb was only a head coach at A&M. He was successful with a record of 123-47-2. But even with that success, his best finish was 6th. He had two top 10 finishes in 14 years.
Mike Sherman was also only a college head coach at A&M. In four seasons he was .500 or below in three of them. His only other year he finished ranked 21st. His overall record was 25-25. However, as an NFL coach he was 57-39. In six seasons he won the NFC north 3 times and made the playoffs 4 of 6 seasons.
Maybe it isn’t just that you haven’t had good coaches. Because it looks like you have had some good to great coaches. And even they couldn’t do what you demand, win a national championship. But this time will be different.

If Aggie makes this a remote job, it will become more attractive.

Middling program with more money than sense.

Best jobs in the SEC, based on the following factors:
Historical program success
Quality of facilities
Wealthy donors/NIL
Location near quality recruits
In-state or nearby competition
1. Texas- they rank highly in every category
2. Georgia- similar to Texas but smaller
3. LSU- the lack of nearby programs competing for recruits makes this a very easy place to win
4. Alabama- their historical success props them up, but sharing a state with Auburn and not having as many wealthy donors does make it harder for an average coach to win compared to the Top 3.
5. Texas A&M- would be much higher except for the lack of historical success.
6. Florida- on paper it should be a great job, but only two coaches have ever found real success there so it doesn’t appear to be as good of a job as one would think.
7. Auburn- would be higher if not for having to share the state with Alabama
8. Oklahoma- would be much higher thanks to their program success, but they are geographically further to a lot of top recruits in the Deep South.
9. Tennessee- Knoxville is not near a lot of quality recruits. Struggles the past 20 years also makes it hard for them.
10. South Carolina- should probably do more than they do considering how much talent is nearby
11. Ole Miss- per capita, the state of Mississippi is highly fertile in recruiting
12. Miss St- same as above but not as much historical success as OM
13. Missouri- it’s cold and overall fan support is lacking
14. Kentucky- ditto but also football is not the top sport
15. Arkansas- tough place to win. Not much instate talent and surrounded by bigger programs all around. Also relatively small population. Just not much to work with.
16. Vanderbilt- obviously
I mostly agree though would put Florida and Oklahoma over A&M and rank Ole Miss and Mizzou higher and South Carolina lower.

LSU has had success in the past due to being not just the "big fish" but essentially the "only fish" in the pond for recruiting purposes. As recruiting in major conferences has become more "national" (and it will get even more so), this will decline because ... seriously, is there a bigger shithole in the SEC than Baton Rouge?

There are 2, maybe 3 teams that are better jobs than A&M: Georgia, Bama, and potentially-maybe-if you-think-about-it-really-hard-and-you-don't-like-maroon, LSU.
Lol
UF has won multiple national titles since the 90s with 2 different coaches. I know they are not up to standards right now but Florida is still an elite caliber job.
Auburn won a national title with Gene Chizik and went undefeated with Tommy Tuberville.
LSU is definitely a better job not even up for debate as of today and has been for over 20+ years. 3 different head coaches since 2000 with 3 different national championships. Multiple conference and division titles, multiple BCS game appearances and wins
Starting next year with OU and Texas those aren't debatable either based on previous history of A&M playing against them on an annual basis and their conference and national accolades during any period in history
So recap
Bama
UGA
LSU
OU
Texas
UF based on having similar advantages but proven ability to actually win vs pumping recruiting finishes or creating cups based on who finishes 3rd in division
Then it's the toss-up of potential A&M vs ability to win the conference and division on occasion Auburn

I get it. Florida right now ain’t so hot and Tenner offers nothing.
So I would say 6th.

There are (will be) roughly 9 jobs that could be considered to be in a "top tier" and those are Alabama, Texas, Georgia, LSU, Florida, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Auburn and Tennessee. There are almost no schools outside of those other 8 for which if their job and the Texas A&M were open, that a coach would choose their job
You fxcking moron
Please keep talking in absolutes and talk about the last 20 years. Times are a changing which the NIL is spearheading.

This is laughable, you guys won in the Big12. Welcome to the SEC where you will be mid tier at best. Weak arse school with weaker players.

Texas A&M in my lifetime hired a coach from Alabama that Alabama wanted to keep, which I'm guessing is everybody's clear #1 in this list.
That would have never happened outside of Alabama being on probation. There is no other circumstance where A&M could take the head football coach at Alabama.

Most everyone has a billionaire donor… some of us have several.
According to 247Sports, here are the programs with the most money given by boosters since 2005:
1. Oregon
2. Texas A&M
3. Texas
4. Florida
5. Georgia
6. Oklahoma St
7. LSU
8. Oklahoma
9. Auburn
10. Florida St
11. Ohio St
12. Alabama
13. Virginia
14. Tennessee
15. Michigan
Seventh in the SEC is not bad, but it’s noticeably low for a program of Bama’s stature.

5 teams have better SEC records since A/M joined (all 5 have a national title since 2008). Plus Oklahoma and Texas. Missouri has won the east twice. Kentucky is competitive and carries the 2nd sport. I’ve got 10th.
