No, apparently it is true. Keep in mind, he is 6'5 with very long arms. It probably only takes about a 15 inch vertical at his size to dunk.

There is a pic floating around of him in a basketball jersey. He is still massive (obese). I would guess pushing 400, probably a bit less though.
