The kind of person that can sell that with a straight face...
I think I'm off the gay theory and onto the attention whore angle. The AD's reaction was interesting too. With everyone talking about it and the media actually looking into it; I don't care how well it was "investigated" internally, the truth is going to get out. It's the second story on the BBC's US/North America section. That AD better hope he's right.

I kept saying the gay theory never made any sense. I just don't see the need for how much effort they put into it. They certainly didn't need to kill her off.
I jump from the theory to theory, so I went with the funny one last night. I'm starting to think I may have been wrong in my idea that the gay cover up was the funny one.

I'd like to see the charity's books personally. The scam is probably the answer.

After reading the Manti Te'o Glass Menagerie version of the death scene with his internet lover, and plugging that into the timing of the football season and the awards campaigns, mixed with the person who said that he was having sex with other people on campus and his teammates knew that she wasn't really his girlfriend, I am thinking attention whore.
What I don't know is if his dad is the one who Catfished him and it started out innocently, or if someone else Catfished him. If his dad did it, it's sort of like Cam Newton's dad did when he tried to sell him. His dad literally turns up at every corner when the reporters say they "fact checked".
I will say that when I read the deadspin article for the very first time, I thought he might be gay lovers with the bff guy who supposedly catfished him.
If he thought she was real and lied about their relationship in a scam for self promotion, only to be caught up in an internet scam because the person was fake, it's pretty funny.

Another interesting theory, and poetic.

TE'O: Her real name is actually Melelengei
Anyone catch this from the Thamel transcript?

I don't put football players on pedestals and live vicariously through their achievements like some other folks, nor do I take pleasure when they screw up.

It looks like you are putting yourself on a pedestal.

He went on to refer to her as Lala and said that is what her family calls her.

I certainly admit to finding humor if someone has tried to manipulate the system and is then caught.
For instance, the fact that Tiger Woods tried to present himself as the role model of the future generation, only to have a secret life of sex and hookers was fun for me. I had heard stories that he wasn't nice, and I was tired of people thinking he was something he wasn't. I usually enjoy seeing smug political figures who have made moral issues the benchmark of their campaigns and who say ugly and hateful things about others writhe in misery when their secret lover comes out of the woodwork, etc. etc.
If someone hasn't looked for the attention or tried to be something they aren't, I usually feel bad for him or her, and I don't like to see the fall.
ETA: And I ALWAYS feel bad for the family members or friends that are caught in the crossfires and whose lives fall apart. That is terrible to watch, and makes me want the person who screwed up to be even more miserable.

Brian Kelly: "I sat with him and Robby Toma, his close friend"
From the Thamel transcript. I stick to my guns from earlier.
Talk to Robby Toma. He knows something
