I went for the first time in 2011 and had a blast. Awesome town, beautiful scenery, cool fans (at least to LSU I'm sure it's a different story with bama/UF )

Knoxville doesn't have to sell that a major city is an hour or two away, because Knoxville is a major city. It's got everything you need right there.

And We can still recruit just fine nationwide, we have top tier facilities and have kids from 10 different states committed to our 2014 class.
So to be honest you're not really looking for outsiders opinions. You're looking for affirmation of your own opinion.

Tenn won't stay down forever. If you are committed to winning at high levels in college football (aka you spend the $), then eventually even if by dumb luck you will get your time in the sun again.

Now, do I think Tenn will turn back into a top 10 historical power like it used to be? No, too many things are going against them.

Exposure is more equitable in college football than when Tenn was a powerhouse, so they have to share more of the spotlight than when there was only a handful of games on each weekend. This had led to a situation where local talent matter more than it used to, as kids then get exposure and momma at the games.

Only Oregon has really succeeded at pulling piles of recruits year-after-year across the country in this era, and they still do so-so in recruiting (would be a bottom feeder in SEC) and they are backed by Nike.

With that said, Tenn is close enough to talent (compared to say an Oregon) that with a good coach they can be successful, and even with the new paradigm they are a top 20 program.

I am with you Crimson , I think Teenessee will be the best program in the SEC west within 5 years.

I have been very impressed with Butch Jones.

Tennessee isn't sexy. It's too far north. It's in bumfrickville in the eastern part of the state.

On January 15th, when recruits are coming in for official visits, do you think they will enjoy the 40 degree temperatures of Knoxville or the 65 degree temperatures of Florida and Alabama?

Face it. You're Kentucky without the ability to get away with cheating in basketball.

Did an Auburn fan just refer to Knoxville as bumfrickville?

Wow. Just wow.

UGA (and Auburn to a degree) have the pitch that Atlanta is just an hour or two hours away.

Worst. Pitch. Ever.

sounds like you get out a lot. Knoxville is a shithole of shitholes from the SEC town I have been to. And I have been to a lot of them. I go to Knoxville quite a bit and regret it every time

The more interesting question to me is what program, if any, will have to fall before UT can come back? Not saying it would have to be an SEC team.

Who does UT typically go head to head with for recruits? Could they push into B1G territory more easily than gulf state SEC teams?

VA seems like it's waiting for a team to come in and take ownership, lots of top recruits being fought over there recently.

I do not think Tenn "will be back" mostly because it has a weak recruiting base. Tenn used to win in spite of this weakness by being a "national program". For a variety of complex reasons this weak recruiting base caught up with Tenn and they are no longer a "national program". Once you lose that prestige it is almost impossible to get back. Ask Notre Dame or Miami or even Michigan. Those programs will never reach the heights they reached in the past because the fundamentals are not there. This is why its unfair for Bama to get this free pass every year. In other words, in order to preserve Bama's right to have the week off against Tenn, LSU has to play Florida every year. This is preferential treatment to a grotesque degree.

BUT .... They are ranked number 1 in recruitng this year ( I know they have 24 verbals and thats the reason ) and Jones seems to have good ties in the midwest which will help Tenn. in recruiting.

I don't think any, necessarily. If they sneak in a few quality recruiting classes with a few underrated skill players and coach them up, they'll shock some people.

All those verbal recruits may change their minds if Ut loses 5 of it's first 8 games.

Keep on trollin' trollin' trollin'

Also - none of the current verbals expect us to be good this year so that's a stupid argument. Read their interviews.
