ATLANTA, GA. -- Georgia Tech and Tennessee are set to cap off college football's 2017 opening weekend in the coveted prime time slot on Monday night, Sept. 4, in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game.

Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game organizers confirmed the anticipated matchup today, locking in the first game between the Yellow Jackets and Volunteers in 30 years.

"This will be the renewing of a long and beloved rivalry that's been off the board for far too long," said Percy Vaughn, Peach Bowl, Inc. chairman. "And it's a great addition to the long-standing ACC vs. SEC rivalry games we have been able to put together."

"With Georgia Tech and Tennessee, you're talking about two powerhouse programs that we expect to be ranked in the top 25 coming in to the game," said Gary Stokan, Peach Bowl, Inc. president and CEO. "We're looking at a sure sellout and a lot of anticipation for a matchup like this."

The game will be one of the first college games played in the Falcons' state-of-the-art New Atlanta Stadium, set to open earlier that year. The game will kick off in prime time and be nationally telecast on ESPN.

There will probably be more falcons fans than tech fans at the game

Labor Day weekend in atlanta is pretty ridiculous when it comes to events.

Chikfila games,
Braves
Nascar
Dragon Con
Black Gay Pride

its quite the mix

I gotta tell you, that Wishbone/Flexbone offense is a pain in the balls to defend. But on the bright side, we get a month to prepare for it, and since it's the first game, their rhythm won't be established yet.

We're also likely breaking in a new QB by then as well. Should be a good game regardless.

I do too. Football returning should be treated as a celebration. NFL does a good job with this too

It is, but having an entire offseason certainly helps. Their production on offense in bowl games is typically far less than it is during the regular season.

My point is still correct. Points in bowl games:

49 vs MSU- W
17 vs OM- L
21 vs sc- W
27 vs utah- L
7 vs AF- L
14 vs iowa - L
3 vs LSU - L

Outside of last season, their production on offense in bowl games is far less than what they do during the regular season. Which makes perfect sense, considering teams have a month to prepare for it instead of 5 or 6 days. UT will have like 3 months.

With Tech's O eating up time I doubt you'll get enough time to put up 42 points.

McKenzie and Tuttle will be Jr DTs in 2017. I doubt GT gets more than 6 first downs in the game.
