I know Sutton is really good, how about the rest of them? I'm not that familiar with them. TIA

I think it can be a very solid unit, but they're young so it's tough to give a truly accurate assessment.. Brian Randolph and Todd Kelly will start at safety, Cam Sutton, Emanuel Moseley, and Justin Martin will play CB/NB.
We play a lot of 4-2-5, so Jones has put an emphasis on the position in recruiting.
Summer work out reports are extremely positive, but I take that with a grain of salt.

We got a solid group.
- Randolph and McNeil are Sr's at safety. Both are solid. McNeil really came on last year. Berry and Kelly are their backups and both are good enough to play now.
- Emmanuel Moseley looks to start opposite of Sutton and by all accounts he's solid as well. Very athletic came in very skinny but has bulked up enough to be physical at the LOS. The real future star is Raashan Gaulden. He's a true sophmore who will play primarily nickel. Everybody is real excited about him. He have pretty decent depth here too especially if newcomer Justin Martin lives up to hype.
Overall our secondary should be really good. I haven't heard a single UT fan express any concern with the secondary.

Randolph and Kelly I have heard of so they must have some experience back there. Not that I think we will scare anyone with our passing game yet, but I was thinking the DBs would be less tough than your front 7/6 and possibly be your biggest question mark this season.

Everybody keeps thinking Kelly should start over McNeil because he's the hometown legacy but I just don't see it. McNeil was really good last year. Unless he has regressed I don't see Kelly overtaking him.

Justin Martin is a JUCO corner that will challenge for opposite spot from Sutton. Also, guys like Malik Foreman and Devaun Swofford are Jrs and will provide depth.

Yah, I think you're right. I just totally forgot about McNeil.

He might be the best all around athlete on our team. The guy is an absolute beast. I was saying it last year, one of our top 3 pick ups the last recruiting cycle, IMO.

I would say that's one of our stronger units on the field.
Both depth and talent are the best we've had in a while. Both CB and safety spots have a firm 2 deep. Nickel back will as well. The secondary was our Achilles heel under Dooley and the first year under Jones. CBJ has done a great job of getting high caliber players in to the program.
MLB is going to be the position you'll hear most UT fans feel that we have the biggest question mark with at the moment. Possibly DT after that (although it's definitely better than the two and a spare that we had last year)

CB 1 - Cam Sutton - Jr - 25 starts - You know all about him. Lockdown corner.
CB 2 - Emanuel Mosely - SO - 2 starts - Tall speedy corner. Has potential to be good but has two CBs nipping at his heels for this spot.
NB - Rashaan Gaulden - SO - Very talented, but no starts and didn't play much last year except mainly ST. He will be a huge talent upgrade over Coleman but obviously won't have the experience he did.
FS - Brian Randolph - 34 starts - Veteran, talented player. Can come up in run support and cover in the passing game. Team leader and back end of D captian.
SS - Ladarrell McNeil - 31 starts - Veteran, but Needs to improve in pass coverage but a great run stopper. He doesn't have the top end speed you need. Will get pushed by TK Jr. Very hard.
Top Backups
Todd Kelly Jr. Started acouple games last year and had a nose for the ball. Has much more talent than McNeil and will split snaps with him at the least.
FS - Evan Berry - Evan is a freak like his brother. He is actually pushing Randolph but no one can take him off the field due to his leadership but Evan will play a lot this fall to keep everyone fresh.
CB - Malik Foreman - Fastest player on the team. He will push Moseley.
Justin Martin - JUCO - Looks like a backup NB and CB but was top JUCO corner I believe in nation.
This and our DL is a huge strength for our D and team.
Only ? on D is can the young DT's be ready (probably) and can we find the right combo at LB.
Should be a great D this year for TN.

To be honest, I think we will be fielding a very solid D this year. I would have more concern over the MLB position over anything else.

Who do you see taking AJ's spot?
Posted on 7/14/15 at 10:09 am to bigDgator
There are talks of moving Jalen Reeves Maybin to the spot. But Dillon Bates (RS FR) and Darrin Kirkland Jr are front runners. There are like 4 or 5 guys all vying for the spot so I think it will get filled. We'll know at some point In Aug. But from what local media is saying, it sounds like Darrin Kirkland might have an immediate impact.
