Was going to come up for a weekend this summer, but I think I might try to make it up for the Georgia game instead.

Do y'all have any gameday traditions that one must see? Anything going on Friday evening in preparation? How would you advise someone who wants the full game weekend experience?

Thanks y'all!

Bring ear plugs, lube to fit in the seat and to make the attack less painful. Get used to fat people singing the most god awful song incessantly.

The location is great on the river and they've done a nice job covering up their erector set stadium with facades.

Like most fans, they will be nice save for the drunks and the criminally insane.

I enjoyed it. Neyland is crazy to experience because it is a double bowl with a canopy and you can't see out anywhere. The Vol Navy on the river right outside the stadium is unique. The town is surprisingly bum-filled and the campus isn't great, but I liked the people. I saw a woman wearing 8 inch clear plastic platform stripper wedges filled with water with orange Ts floating around in them.

Been to enough games at Neyland with the wife that I feel I can chime in.

Friday night, either hang out on the strip (bars) or go eat at Calhouns on the River for some good bbq but better views.

Gameday, Volwalk is just about like any other team walk. It is cool though to stay outside and watch the band march in, and do the Salute to the Hill.

Seats are narrow, and you will do a good bit of walking to get to your seats - there are ramps everywhere, but the one from Gate 10 to the upper level is a real hike. It does have a nice view of the river. If UT is doing well, be prepared to hear Rocky Top 50+ times. They play it after offensive 1st downs, after defensive stops, after scoring, and a few times just for the hell of it I think.

It really is.

It's a shithole right now because of all the construction. It's going to be a lot nicer when it all gets completed. Except they seem to add two new projects every time one gets completed, so there is no telling when actual completion date will be.

Most visiting fans always want to eat at Calhoun's on the river. It's a nice rib place but it will be packed out the arse on game day so I would advise you to get there early.

Head on down to Neyland about 2 hours before kickoff if you want to check out the Vol walk which is when the team makes their way to the stadium

I expect the atmosphere to be electric for the UGA game especially if it's at night. Don't let some of the folks on here fool you, Neyland is LOUD. You should have a great time as a neutral observer.

Oh and if you don't know the words to Rocky Top now, you will when you leave

If possible I would hold off on visiting until the strip (One of the main streets on campus where all the food and college bars are located) is completely done being renovated. Campus is a cluster frick atm because of all of the construction going on. If you can wait until 2017 I think you would enjoy your time much more.

Having the strip look like it was fresh out of the 1970's has been the big knock on campus for years. So as much as this had to be done, the waiting game sucks.

lol... I won't hold it against you. We have a bye week, I want to visit some KY distilleries, and we don't play UT or UGA until next millennium, so I figured I'd kill a few birds with one stone.

I forgot to mention, if you want to have an awesome tailgating experience, head down to the river and try to make friends with some Tennessee fans that have a boat.

I'm in Wears Valley this week and took a trip to Knoxville for the day to hit some of the breweries. Took a detour to tour UT.

Looks like parking would suck but I think it would be a pretty cool venue to see a game in. Thinking of coming up next year for the game against UF. Should be going for 12 in a row!

You're coming at a bad time In my opinion due to the insane amount of construction that's going on. But if you come in on Friday, I would go to Market Square. There are some great bars (Suttrees, Preservation Pub ) and great local eateries (Square Room, Stock & Barrel - my favorite, Downtown Grill and Brew).

On Saturday I would go on campus to tailgate and just walk around. The Vol Walk goes on a couple hours before kickoff which I highly recommend. The majority of my gameday experience has been as a student so it's a little different.

***This goes for everyone coming into Knox the next two years or so. They are re-doing all of the roads so traffic in/around campus will be hell. Try and park away from it and walk in***

For Friday night I'd recommend the Market Square/Gay St area. There should several places to suit your taste as long as you aren't looking for a club. Some decent eateries down there too.

As has been mentioned, the Vol Walk is like any other and most people want to check out Calhoun's and the Vol Navy. Really though, there will be ample tailgating going on all around the stadium (west side). I would recommend getting in the stadium in time to see the band pregame an running through the T...idk, I still think it's fricking awesome after all these years.

Knoxville does have a certain "charm", and there are some bums but they're harmless. And there will be ongoing construction, but you would have to be a real a-hole not to have a good time still.

The location of the stadium being on the river is pretty badass. The vol navy is cool also. With that being said, parking sucks, seats suck and the fans suck. Enjoy.
