Not only has DeBord been in an administrative role the past two years, he wasn't even overseeing football.
Tennessee just hired a pencil pusher from an olympic sports program to call their offensive plays.

At least now I understand why they waited until after NSD to announce it. It's a really bad hire.
you didn't even know who he was until this thread

Arkansas just hired a coach who was close to being fired at Central Michigan.
Kind of the same thing, minus the whole 5 years out of football thing.

Okay.....I'll just leave this here to discuss why this is such a great hire....
On February 1, 2013, DeBord was hired by Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon to be the sports administrator for the school's Olympic sports teams. In this role he works with the field hockey, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's gymnastics, men's and women's track and field, and men's and women's tennis programs.[10]

No. We will be running Butch's offense and certainly not Carr's. Our offense won't change at all in any fundamental way. Jones was an OC for DeBord at CMU - the whole point of this hire is to keep our offense the same without any of the hiccups that would come from a new system or new terminology. DeBord is also an Oline whiz so hopefully he works with Mahoney there. Azzani will get a bump in title and start to learn under DeBord so he can take over later.
But nothing about our offense is going to change beyond a minor tweak here or there. That is the point of the DeBoring hire.

This hire is based completely off of continuing to build on what we already have going on offense.
It will be the same formations, same terminology, etc. Butch was comfortable with Debord running his style of play. Trying to completely revamp our offense with a team finally talented enough to win some games would have been a bad hire. I agree the name itself is underwhelming but I agree with the thought process of continuity.

Like in 2012 when we hired a new DC (sunseri) who switched us from a 3-4 to a 4-3. We promptly lost 7 games with the best statistical offense in Tennessee's history (avg 36 pts/game, 31 pts/gm in SEC)...because we had one of the worst defenses in Tennessee history.
I like the continuity in this hire.

All of this.

He's like the Michigan version of David Cutcliffe. Michigan offense was good while he was there, sucked when he left, and good again when he came back. Cutcliffe is old too but he still has many years left in him.

Considering the situation, he was expected to come in and completely flip the program. No one expected him to come in and win the SEC in his first couple years. But he has improved the record, we improved in every statistical category this year, he is recruiting at a elite level and getting rid of the loser mentality that had creeped in under Dooley. Average attendance has gone up 10,000 per game since the year he took over
All these things point to Him leading Tennessee to where it has been, at the top of the East. He could still blow it, but who knows. But if you think the expectation at Tennessee is 6 wins then you're a fool.

Obviously, I don't. Just pointing out that him exceeded anything was jumping the gun.
I agree, the arrow looks to be pointing up and I think you'll be better this year than most of the board seems to, but "building" only last so long.

I can tell you, no one expected him to come in and recruit the way he has. A huge surprise to the entire fanbase
