Another reason they would be factually inaccurate.
Officially, 1967 counts. By not counting it, they are "just making stuff up", which is something I'm assured they don't do, even though they do it.

We don't don't claim 39, and we should. Undefeated, untied, and unscored upon in the regular season. Bowl games didn't decide NCs back then.
