Also, for anybody that cares, which will probably only be UT fans and people who remember the kid...

My sophomore year (the year after Jarod went to UT), we played a team from ITP at home. Nobody had ever heard of them we beat them by 20-30. They had a kid on the field that was absolutely nasty at QB/DB/PR/KR that nobody knew. He was filthy. My high school coach got on the horn with Fulmer and alerted him about the prospect. He signed with UT. The high school was Crim in Atlanta and the player was Inky Johnson.

That made 3 DBs my high school coach sent to UT. Deon Grant (while he coached at Josey), Parrish, and, indirectly, Inky Johnson.

My coach was a Bama fan.

^Inky is a legend - that man means so much to us and our community you probably have no idea. Nothing but love and respect for Inky Johnson. He's a huge inspiration to everyone around him.

I'm no UT apologist, but I felt just awful about his situation when I read about it years ago. For my money, he was the most underrated football recruit I have ever seen. A two star on rivals, unreal.

This sounds like a UGA campaign to take the Vols' spot in the Big 5

Before he got hurt he was a big time playmaker but he was beloved from the moment he arrived - huge heart. That injury, a lot of people don't know, almost cost him his life. It didn't just paralyze his arm - he had to be rushed back into emergency surgery or he'd have died. All on a fluke hit that I still can't wrap my head around.

But Inky stuck around. Home was no place for him and he wanted his degree. He's worked with kids in the community and does a lot of public speaking.

ESPN is gonna do a movie on him and while I know I'll bawl my eyes out seeing that hit, Inky's story deserves to be told. He was and remains far more than a player to us.
