Waste of money.

What good will it accomplish?

This is the beginning of the end of the arms race to nowhere.

Damn you're stupid. The parts being upgraded are in disrepair and badly in need of renovations. They are the oldest parts of the stadium

What's the price for a new stadium? I'm not trying to be funny but it seems you could build a new one for this amount of money

Just finding a new location requires a lot of input from local government, avoiding Indian burial grounds, bond issues, getting funds from the state etc. And you'd need a billion plus dollars.

If needed though the price only will increase yearly. 10 years could be 3 billion. I wish USC would start from scratch. You're at 500 million, why not another 500 million. How much was Dallas stadium? They put every bell n whistle you can think of

I just looked it up and Atlanta's new stadium was 1.2 billion but that's with a retractable roof etc. I bet without all the bells n whistles you could get one for 800 or 900 million. I bet the state would help with some sort of tax until completed

So it won't look like a giant erector set any more?

Neyland Stadium is awesome. It looks like an aircraft carrier tossed up on the beach.

Once upon a time I was walking to class and these two high school football coaches pulled up in a car. Could I direct them to the Johnny Majors coaching clinic? So I rode over to the stadium with them and when came around the corner and it loomed over us, the one guy actually pointed at it and said, "Look!"

Of course it was puny then, only about 80,000. Neyland stadium is open every day of the year. There are a lot of university and faculty offices located there. Once upon a time it had student housing in it. All the expansions so far are based on plans drawn up by General Neyland.

Did you know that General Neyland, OBE was knighted by the British Empire?

And a member of the Legion of Merit.

"The Legion of Merit (LOM) is a military award of the United States Armed Forces that is given for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements. The decoration is issued to members of the seven uniformed services of the United States[1] as well as to military and political figures of foreign governments.

The Legion of Merit (Commander degree) is one of only two United States military decorations to be issued as a neck order (the other being the Medal of Honor) and the only United States military decoration which may be issued in award degrees (much like an order of chivalry or certain Orders of Merit)."

Here is a pic of General Neyland on the West Point baseball team in 1914. Also notable is Omar Bradley, who commanded operation OVERLORD.

It's too much money for a renovation.

It's all crazy outta hand.

Ticket prices are through the roof. Fewer fans are actually coming to most games. It's too expensive for people to bring their families anymore. Family of four spends close to $1000 a game these days if they are coming from out of town.

The bubble is going to burst. First time TV quits making payments and it all pops.

That is NASCAR. The tickets I believe are mostly about $55.00 on their face. Its the season ticket holders who get wrung out for money.

Now we know why they picked this fund raising frick instead of someone who actually wants to win football games for an elite program.

That's a valid point, but a different discussion. These areas of the stadium are very old and haven't been touched in 50-60 years. Sure there will be bells and whistles, but it is a renovation that has to be done.
