Pearl's style is very feast or famine, and if you don't have mature players to go along with talented players, it can look really ugly if you have any off night.

Underrated players are often some of best to get in recruiting because they're easily coachable

I mean that is what you get with Bruce Pear. It's fine if he has players like Lofton who can bail them out on offense, but as far as half court offense goes it's abysmal to watch.
Yea, but those Tennessee teams he had (at least his peak ones) compensated for sloppy half court play with pressure and great inbounds defense. They created offense with defense.
This Auburn team doesn't seem to do that at all, and it's strange because it feels like they should be able to with their athletes and a pretty deep bench.

Yep - which is one of the reasons those first few teams he had with #BuzzBalls leftovers were so good. The perfect mix of mature, talented enough veterans with young athletic kids and one of the greatest shooters ever.

They just look uninterested out there, haven't watched enough Auburn to really judge them though

Suck Carolina, go sit in the corner. You fricks are more relevant in football.

They play really, really young. They have some guys with raw talent, but their highly rated talent was pretty raw (Herron, Wiley, etc). GenesChin can correct me if I am wrong, but that's kind of the vibe I get (and seem to remember from recruiting reports on their guys). Just a really immature roster from a pure basketball sense. Obviously, that will improve with time and experience, but not quickly.
Plus, there isn't really any veteran presence on the entire roster. It's almost all young dudes.

Auburn players refuse to pass and choose shitty shots instead of hooking a teammate out

Lamonte Turner is a useful player. Anyone know why he went to Tennessee over Auburn/Bama. He's from Florence, Al

Pearl's less mature teams have always had a lot of Gottfried traits. His teams very much rely on players to set the tone on the floor in terms of toughness, maturity to stick with the plan and intensity. I don't know if that is on purpose, but I vividly remember how different Pearl's teams at Tennessee looked from year to year based on who their leaders were.

Feel like maybe Grant recruited him pretty hard but when he left Avery didn't or something?
I could be totally off there, but I do remember us being involved with him.

Exactly - guys like that were the difference in Pearl's early great teams and his soft late teams.
Those early Pearl teams were tough as shite. The late ones were baby arse soft. Like I said (and you guys obviously know), his system heavily relies on dudes on the floor setting the tone.

But all part of inexperience and being young, especially when there isn't a guy to grab your neck in the huddle and tell you to SETTLE THE FRICK DOWN.

Pearls offense gives players a ton of freedom to adapt to the defense
The result is if you have selfish players they see shots for themselves. If you have hard nosed players they take aggressive opportunities

Yep. And, if you are inexperienced, sometimes you don't quite know the difference between the two, or when to be selfish and when not to be. Not an easy concept to grasp.
