All I'm saying is that if Tim Tebow has set foot in a campus watering hole, had sex with a coed or "sinned" in any other way during his time in Gainsville as a Gator, then he's a complete hypocrite.

How does sinning make one a hypocrite just because he is a professing Christian?

We all sin, and any Christian who claims perfection is not a Christian, because we know only one perfect person has ever walked on Earth.

I've never heard Tim Tebow profess to being perfect. If I sin once, but then refuse to do something else that damages my witness, how is that hypocritical.

If Tebow were damning other students for doing something he had done, that is hypocritical.

The only thing not to like about this kid is the color of his jersey.

So is thinking about sexual acts with a girl if she is not your wife. Therefore, who among us is perfect?

It doesn't. And he's not a hypocrite for professing to be a Christian.

He's a hypocrite if he doesn't apply the same moral standard (his faith) to his day to day life that he applied to the Playboy All American team issue we're discussing.

And again, my argument assumes that Mr. Tebow is living the life of your run-of-the-mill star (Heisman Trophy winning!) college quarterback: that he's shagging the occasional stunningly beautiful girl and going out and tearing it up every once in awhile.

My point is if you're faith doesn't preclude you from doing the latter, then how can it preclude the former?

If he DID and DOES apply the same moral standard to his day to day life this does not preclude him from committing sin. And if he is a devout christian and does commit a sin this does not mean he is a hypocrite.

This is wrong on so many levels. Just because we fall short on some occasions, we should not continue to strive to do better?

Is this really a moral debate?

Tebow did a good thing by turning down a pornographic publication. In the long run, this will make him MORE popular with the masses. Good way to go IMO. BTW, you meet the best chicks in and around church so he's got the right idea.

I've said this about four different ways so far...this is my last attempt:

This has nothing to do with falling short. Is has to do with image on the one hand, and personal actions on the other, and how an individual applies his faith to each of them. The standard should be the same.

quote:

And if he is a devout christian and does commit a sin this does not mean he is a hypocrite.

Again...committing (or not committing) a sin doesn't make him or anybody else a hypocrite! Selectively applying a standard - moral or otherwise - to your actions does!

You are assuming something about a guy's personnal life and holding it against him and you have no idea who you are talking about.

Here you go again, how do you know what he does off the field? Do I need to go get some more of your quotes?

he's not above reproach in the class and integrity department - post-touchdown arm-pumping celebrations and student section taunting are but two examples.

So you just slammed him for getting excited after touchdowns? Are you kidding? I guess you think every player in college football, and any other sport for that matter, is classless. And after receiving thousands of calls from LSU students in the weeks leading up to the game, I can't blame him for a quick taunt of the student section.

Tebow hate amazes me. If you can't beat them, criticize them. The kid is one of the best football players I have seen in a long time. I probably would turn down Playboy as well.

Now if Hustler would have a shoot, it might be a different story.

Not slammed...read..."not above reproach." This was a response to a poster who said that "he handles himself with a lot of class and integrity." You might think I have a stick jammed up my *ss, but the way Tebow acts - the most talented player in college football - on the field is, at times, classless.

To say that Tebow is classless b/c he gets excited, especially with all that goes on this day and age, tells me that either you have never played sports before or are just angry that he did it against LSU. Are you going to say that it is classless to act like Dorsey did last year after a sack? How about when your Tigers piled on the guy at home plate after winning the world series? Bottom line, even though they look like grown men, they are not. Most of them are 19-21 years old. How did you act at that age? I think it's awesome they are passionate about winning. I think it does go overboard sometimes but classless? We aren't talking about T.O. here.

How about "u can't see me", how about a hundred other acts of "classlessness" demonstrated by LSU players last year. How about all the "classless" players everywhere. The "classless" comment in college football has gotten absurd. And all the religous hipocrit stupidity needs to go elsewhere too as that is a complete waste of space.

I was one of the many people that got his cell phone number and left a little less than polite message. Sure as hell, the next day they do a story about him doing missionary work and how he lets orphans go with him in the locker room to meet the players. DAMN HIM!!!! I felt like such a dick! Why can't he be an arrogant arse hole so I can hate him? I can't hate this guy, he's so damn nice. now I'm the bad guy.
