Teams that need to be on guard this week

It seems like a pretty benign week ahead in the SEC, and while major upsets are unlikely, I think there are a handful of teams that better be extra careful:

MISSISSIPPI STATE
All the pressure is on the Bulldogs. MSU is in danger of falling to 0-2. This would be an absolute disaster for Dan Mullen. I'm not sure many people would have given the Gamecocks much of a shot a week ago, but they appear to have a decent shot of starting 2-0 in SEC play.

If Mississippi State loses this game, you can pretty much declare the season lost for the Bulldogs. A bowl game would seem very unlikely after starting 0-2.

TENNESSEE
If the Volunteer team that showed up last week against App State comes back out against Virginia Tech with no improvement, Tennessee will set a Guinness record for losing a football game in front of the most people ever. It will also kick off the Butch Jones farewell tour. And Tennessee 2016 will officially become Auburn 2015.

FLORIDA
While all the focus was on Kentucky losing to Southern Miss, no one seems to notice that the Wildcat offense put up some fairly impressive numbers last Saturday. After just one game, QB Drew Barker leads the SEC in Passing Yards... putting up 323 in the losing effort to Southern Miss.

While not very good, Kentucky is a much better team that UMass. And UMass gave the Gators all they could handle last Saturday. I'm not sure Florida has the offense to put up more than 21 points on any SEC team. If Kentucky has success moving the ball, they might just win this game. Again, like Mississippi State, all the pressure is on the Gators in this one.

ALABAMA
Yes, Alabama. While I don't give the Hilltoppers any actual chance of winning this game, I think they do have the type of offense that often seems problematic for Alabama. Right now, Alabama sits atop the rankings at #1, and everyone is looking towards the Ole Miss game in Week 3. Western Kentucky won 12 game last year. Their QB, Mike White, put up over 500 passing yards last week against Rice. If Alabama comes out asleep and going through the motions, WKU could very well keep this one close going into the second half.

ARKANSAS
TCU will be the favorite. No one outside of Fayetteville expects Arkansas to win this game. But if Arkansas were to get blown out, "Bielema Ball" will once again put the Hogs in an early season hole. Arkansas can win back some respect with an upset of the Horned Frogs. Even playing them close for four quarters would probably cause people to give the Hogs a second look. But after struggling to beat La Tech last week by just a single point, a blowout loss to TCU would be embarrassing for Bielema in Year 4.

UMass gave UF all they could handle? That's funny.

They had 1 scoring drive of 70ish yds, 40 of which came off penalties and 2 15yd personal foul drive extenders. UF's D will hold UK to less than 14 points.

Was it not 10-7 until the 4th quarter?

Are we just ignoring TCU struggling with an FCS opponent and giving up nearly 500 yards of offense and 41 points to them in this post?

How is he ignoring it? Getting blown out by that team would be embarrassing.

People need to pump the brakes on Florida's offense.

Hold your judgement until after the UK game.

Last Saturday was riddled with a monsoon and heavy rotation on offensive players. They wanted to get Del Rio reps, and as a result he threw the ball 44 times in the monsoon. Any other game, we would've been more run oriented due to the weather. Expect that rotation to be cut down for SEC play, Florida to run their offense with more balance, and Florida's offense to look better than it did Saturday. I expect Florida to win 38-14

Wait till after you play a team that gave up 550 yards to southern Miss?

Yes. Or hell, hold your judgement until after the Tennessee game. You'll see.

Same as every year.

Two judgements I am not holding off on is that Del Rio is better than Treon at making progressions and Pineiro is dinero.

No. When the scoreboard says "Florida 10, UMass 7" with 12 minutes to go in the game, its not just funny, its accurate.

UMass was #104 in Total Defense last year. They were #94 in Rush Defense last year. Despite that, Florida managed just 107 rushing yards and 363 Total Yards... Against UMass!

It's possible. Heck, I think its necessary. Florida doesn't seem to have the offense to put up more than 21 even on Kentucky.

Ignoring? No. TCU needs this win more than Arkansas. They did not look good in Week 1. But the fact that South Dakota State hung with TCU for so long adds even more pressure to the Hogs.

If Arkansas beats TCU, all will be good.
If Arkansas loses to TCU in a very close game, no one will blink an eye.
But if TCU wins by 17+, the heat will... or at least SHOULD... get turned up on Bielema's seat.

Bielema is 5-8 as the Hog's head coach in the month of August/September against FBS opponents. At some point, you've got to think even Arkansas fans will stop putting up with this crap.

What ever member of your family some Arkansas violated.... we apologize.

When it comes to everyone but Arkansas you are a quality poster. But, for whatever reason, we don't just own real estate in your head we own your whole cerebral cortex.

Let it go Kyle. Just let it go. You can be a shitty poster fixated on Arkansas or you can be one of the top twenty or so posters on this board. You can't be both.

I won't be able to watch the second half of the Cats-Gators game due to a farm wedding. So I assume we'll break the streak without me because God hates me.

State plays @ UMass (neutral).

If State loses this weekend to South Carolina, they could be looking at a 2-3 win season.

Does last seasons's #112 Scoring Offense not count?

Okay. What is the excuse for all of last season? In their last 7 games, Florida is averaging just 284 total yards/game.

It's certainly possible. Kentucky is not good. However, Florida has won the last two contests against the Wildcats by 6 points or less. It's not inconceivable to think it could be a close game again this year.

Hmm. Funny how that works out. Maybe you just don't want to see the truth about your own program.

Arkansas was one of 5 teams mentioned in my OP. Don't give your team so much credit for being relevant. But beating La Tech 21-20 when you were a heavy favorite at home is going to cause people to have reservations about Arkansas.... heck, especially after all the embarrassing losses Bielema has already racked up over the last 3 seasons.

I can be whatever I want to be. And I will keep posting the truth whenever I see it. I'm sorry you can't handle the truth.

And coming into the season, everyone knew that if Florida had better QB play and the kicking game was improved, the East would go through Gainesville again.

I may be biased, but people need to watch out for Florida. They are going to be a force under LDR in my opinion.
