not the same at all. Fran would have had to leave for A&M and then come back and coached Auburn.

but yeah, Fran left Alabama in sanctions, with little talent left and really little hope. Saban left LSU as one of the top schools in the country with the groundwork laid out for more championships.

yeah so if anything the Saban deal was worse.

And quoting the records in the next few years is so weak. We did well because of LES MILES and you sucked not because Fran left you but because you cheated your arse of for years and got caught.

No…different to me because the situations were different. It is well documented that Saban left LSU with some reluctance and it is well documented that Fran was actively trying to leave Alabama as early as November 2001, all the while keeping everyone in the dark about his true feelings while encouraging the upperclassmen to stay onboard while he himself was waiting for the right moment to abandon ship.

You can call me a hypocrite all you want but you'll still be just as wrong every time you do so.

The sanctions really didn't hit us until 2005-2006.

Yeah, they are different to you because one was your team and one wasn't. That's really the bottom line, if you were an LSU fan you wouldn't give 2 shits about Fran.

Again all I'm asking for is some consistency. I guess that's too much to ask and I should have known better than to ask for it from you people in the first place.

No…they are different because they left under completely different circumstances.

You still are stuck on the assumption that we are angry JUST BECAUSE he left.

I've harped on this for years and I know I've repeated it here but I was working for a news station in Tyler at the time and multiple head coaches in East Texas flat out told me they discouraged kids from going to A&M b/c they absolutely hated Fran. This wasn't just at rinky dink 2A or TAPPS schools either. It went all the way up to the 4A and 5A schools.

frick Fran.

Except I'm actually backing what i say up not doing everything I can to squirm out of my cognitive dissonance by trying to make them out to be totally different.

Yeah I'm sure all of that sucked as an Alabama fan. Guess what though, I don't really care when Fran wanted to leave or who he said what to. THE POINT YET AGAIN IS THIS: we both got burned by coaches in the past yet Alabama fan are the only ones in this scenario trying to tell LSU fans how they should or shouldn't feel about theirs.

NO I'M NOT.

you're really struggling with this for some reason. i don't care why you're angry. it's none of my business. I'm not telling you that you're right or wrong to be pissed about it. WHY CAN'T ALABAMA FANS GIVE US THAT SAME RESPECT???

They are. You are pissed because Saban came back to the SEC to coach at Alabama. That is completely different from what happened at Alabama with Fran.

Devil's advocate moment

I feel like both LSU AND Alabama fans often forget, this is a BUSINESS. The coaches aren't fans.

It's their job and they do what they think needs to be done. The fact that they don't answer to the same consequences as the students do isn't their fault, its the batshit NCAA rules that students have next to zero in terms of leverage (in fact that's another topic I'd love to go into, but for another thread). Fran had to make everyone "hold the rope" because he was being paid to do so and to his credit, didn't lead us on by signing a huge contract (he was a midwest guy too). Alabama was going to be on probation for years and still under a bowl ban and our recruiting was AWFUL and this was ALL before the 2002 campaign kicked off. I would have been secretly looking for a new job if everything was seemingly going against me. No one knew we'd actually be kind of good that year. Saban did what every college coach has seriously thought about as some point, head to the NFL. No college program is bigger than the NFL and the list of coaches who've succeeded at both is small so it was probably an exciting new challenge for him. When that turned sour, another elite college program, close to his recruiting ties and region, was hiring... with the right offer it was a no-brainer.

The 2002 defense

Was good. Should have been better. Very similar to the 99' defense in that they were stout against the run and pretty average against the pass. I wasn't a huge fan of the 4-2-5 base. They were very underwhelming in most of the big games and gave up 34 points to MTSU.

Hey and all of that is fine. The only problem I have is the Alabama fan who in one breath bitches about Fran and in the other tells LSU they are wrong to be pissed at Saban.

Fran doesn't bother me as much anymore since, A) it's in the past B) look at how he turned out at aTm... I know Shula wasn't a world beater but we never reached Aggie's level of hell. C). 3 BCS titles later kinda washes all the hurt away

I did. My question still stands. When did I ever tell you not to be pissed at Saban's departure from LSU. Am I an Alabama fan or am I not?

we already got ours, it was 1998-2007. A decade of absolute shite of bad coaching, bad administration, little talent, losing to schools named La. Tech, NIU, UCF and ULM and the NCAA going in dry. Legit worries of fading into the night like Princeton Football. We're just emerging from the Red Sea
