Didn't know that. Do those get reported in attendance numbers?

Sort of getting sidetracked here.

My point is, you may have increased in number of students allowed in the student section, however percentage wise, it isn't because your fandom is just increasing. It is because they increased the amount allowed in from a small % of student population to little more respectable number. If Auburn was at 45% student section/student body capacity and increased it to 60%, their student attendance would go up, but it isn't because students are becoming more interested or anything.

It really is funny though watching aTm fans on here and the ones I know in the real world circle the wagons any time something comes out that doesn't make them seem like complete super fans.

Um, it was a pretty small jump. We still set our record in 2010 before the official jump with temporary seating.

What was it before its current level of 30K?

i would assume so considering its a ticket sold

so the fact that we sell out the aloted student tickets ever year, and every week people show up to the game regardless of opponent, is all because we have a large student body? the point we are making isn't that our student section is so large, but its because every week, regardless of the opponent, we have at least 95% of allotted tickets sold. that's what we are talking about. we aren't talking about the size, we are saying that while other places are being affected by a dwindling student section, we aren't having that problem

wut? i don't give two shits if someone else has a so called better "school size ratio" than us. all i know is week in and week out, our student section is basically full regardless of opponent and regardless of start time

Well you've been going on a rant from a study that says nationwide student attendance is on the decline, yet didn't mention aTm. Another fan mentioned he wasn't impressed by the student section in the multiple games he went to over the past few years, and gets blasted by multiple fans for stating his observations. This thread proves much of my point.

A. Pretty much all the SEC schools sell out their student section for most games. Some struggle with smaller games. The study was a nation wide study though.
B. You kept going on and on about the 30K number, but when compared to student size, it isn't all that impressive. Auburn's student section is right at 60% of student body size. Does that mean that Auburn students are better fans? Impossible to say, but just because you have a large number, doesn't make it necessarily more impressive or indicative of better fans.

I think all of A&M student tickets are "standing room tickets".

not really

I have said multiple times I'm not talking about overall size

Auburn's student section is right at 60% of student body size
that's about where we are

I'm not going on a rant all. I'm just shooting the shite. I mean you really think I truly care about any of this shite?

Right about 30K. The temporary seating didn't add all that much.

A&M has 50,000 students and 30,000 student seats. That's also 60%.

Dude, we're Aggies, circling the wagons is what we do.

Also, circling the jerks. You know, around jars.

Yes, long as I can remember we have been close to 30k.

We would have the world record but Nebraska comes too close to call it. They also are the only fan base that can compete with us on an internet poll.

It has been. It was like 29k, now its 31k. Of course this is perm seating and not maxed out temp seat games.

Easy solution... Offer less to the students.

Knee jerk reaction imho. A better solution would be to stop scheduling high school teams and pretending they are legit competition. An 11am game against a deaf girls' school does not excite anyone, certainly not students who have better shite to do. I am happy BDS is 1/4 empty when they bring in those tomato cans. I hope Battle and Saban look at those empty seats and get pissed at themselves, because they are to blame.

South Carolina most definitely needs a smaller student section.

Also, I graduated last year.

Screw the students and their "distractions." Gameday is an experience, not a 4 hour wait to find out who won. I'm a fricking Vandy fan -- which means a good game for me was usually one where the cheerleaders didn't weep at the tragedy of it all -- and, while I can't claim to have made every game, I certainly made at least 5-6 a year. Hell, I made at least 3-4 a year when I was in grad school at UNC, and UNC was hardly much better than Vandy. I get the arguments for staying home and watching it on a big-screen TV. That's what I do every Saturday nowadays, and it's quite nice. But if you're a student who can't be bothered to go cheer for your favorite team in person (assuming there are no other factors like physical or economic limitations), you need to go cheer for soccer or something instead because you're missing out on one of the great experiences of sports...filling up on booze and brisket in the parking lot, then cheering your lungs out in the stadium while tens of thousands of obnoxious assholes do the same all around you.

Er...other obnoxious assholes, I meant to say.
