"One thing Clemson, Vanderbilt and Auburn all had in common was a crazy stadium atmosphere,"

Article is bogus. The atmosphere at Vandy is pretty weak, sadly. It's gotten better the last couple of years, but it's mostly just noise. The Vandy band is embarrassing though. And even a 39k sellout just isn't enough people to really create an atmosphere, especially with the smallest and quietest student section of 6k.

Easy solution... Offer less to the students.

Students are always the best fans in the stadium.

I would venture to say that it is not just student attendance that is down

Yeah, and add in the fact Vandy has the smallest and likely most dispersed alumni base, it's not realistic to compete as far as rabid fan bases go. We also don't have nearly the number of crazed bandwagoners.

Not at USC, we were in the Top 10 nationally for Attendance %. We dedicate the entire North Endzone, 3 sections in the Lower East Stands 1 in the Upper West stands to students/faculty and it's always full or almost full, even for games against mid tier teams.

I'd guess some of it has to do with kids wanting to do other stuff, get laid, get drunk ect. They're not interested in every snap.

But I'd also guess some of it has to do with the way athletes run the show at universities. The perception is a lot of them don't do the school work, they get whatever they want, they get the women, they get everything. They're dicks to normal students or treat them as if they're irrelevant but then want them to show up to games.

Every ag on this board saying you don't have this problem. Yes you do. Aggies are guilty of the same thing. Get up for big games, but smaller games don't show up/leave early. Ive been to 5 aggie games the past 2 years and every single time ive been in first deck. Only time it was packed was for lsu last year. every other game there was plenty of empty seats because they weren't good opponents, which happens everywhere. You are having that problem, you are just to biased to see it.

Sure the blue hairs might leave, but this is a thread about STUDENT attendance. Even during the worst games our first two decks on the student side stay full, even our shitty third deck stays full for the most part.

When it comes to STUDENT attendance, we have the largest student attendance on average in the SEC, we give our students the best real-estate in the stadium any students get in the SEC, and we been filling these student seats even in our crappiest years.

We don't have this problem.

Yeah, I was in first deck of the student side and they are great seats, which is why I am surprised they leave so often.

On the very worst days for the 12th man, we still have WAY more students in the stadium than any other SEC team. I mean, even in our darkest pre-SEC games we were setting student attendance records:

So again, not our problem. When your starting point is 30+k students in attendance, you can miss a few here and there and still be ok.

what? every game ive been to has been fricking packed, like people spilling into the aisles and people hanging out over on the ramps because there is no room. I honestly have no idea what youre talking about when it comes to the student section. yea the north endzone and east side have their open parts when we are playing the UTEPs, vandys, etc but the student section is basically always full

There is a big turnout, but the only time it was packed like you are talking about that I have been to was LSU last year. Im sure it was the same for bama and the other big games this year, but not EVERY game. For example, last year yall blew out Sc State like 100-14. Then Rice this year. And yes I am talking about student section. Are those good games, no (actually rice this year was pretty interesting due to lack of defense). But if you are saying you fill up for EVERY game, they I respectfully disagree. Agree to disagree. It is still an amazing big game environment.

What do you mean by fill up? 100%? No we don't hit 100% every time.

BUT BUT BUT

Even at our worst (like for example the Vandy game last year) we get 90% (which is still more students total than 99% of the country) AND we still pressure students hard when those lapses happen:

Again, when you set aside 30K seats, 10% can not show up and you still have more students than the most LSU has all year.

This is on one of the best days outside of the P5 conferences.
54k in a rented stadium

It really makes me know how good some got it, when you can argue "100% full" or "some fans leaving early"

Because of JFF, for majority of the 2000s Kyle field was half empty unless it was against Texas or OU.

San Diego St. should have been the first team the Big 12 picked up when we left.
