It’s because A&M’s “prestige” is a lie perpetuated by their weird obsessive cult alumni just like their “money”. They’re a very average academic school in the big scheme of things just like their entire wealth myth is based on their, again, cult alumni, desperately donating a disproportionate amount of their wealth to A&M’s endowment in an attempt to keep up with Texas

This might be the least intelligent thing I've ever read here.

A&M is an AAU institution.

Its R&D expendutures dwarf most of the SEC schools.

It has a dozen or so National Academy members.

You are a special kind of stupid. Congrats on being a Nationally Ranked Idiot.

Arkansas has almost doubled its enrollment in the last decade.

They became so obsessed with getting to 30,000 that half of new freshman are from Texas. Clearly they’ll just accept anybody.

Knowing you say this with tongue-in-cheek with a wink in your eye, I'll take it.

If not, your ignorance is typical of a Texan.

UK is doing the same thing. I enrolled as a Masters student in '94 and it was a little under 20K. Now it's 36K, and most of that growth is in the last 5-10 years.

The new model in higher ed at state schools where the state legislature barely sends the institution enough money to get their name on the building is to get big.

It's the "Walmart" model.

In fairness, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State & A&M did this long ago and managed to maintain their academic reputations in the circles that matter (not on tRant where most participants can't operate a 4-function calculator). So it's a model that can work, but not always.

What are the application requirements for all of the schools?

UGA has essay requirements.

UGA has an average of 10 AP/Dual Enrollment Courses for freshmen.
With the average GPA at 4.19 (core classes) and 1270-1470 mid-range SAT, a lot of students don't bother with the essays and application fee even though UGA would be their first choice.

120,000 high school graduates a year and only 43,000 apply to UGA.

A&M is a great school, no question about it.

The academic tiers (after Texas and Oklahoma join) will be like this:

Vanderbilt

Texas, Florida, Georgia, A&M

Auburn, South Carolina, Tennessee, Missouri, Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kentucky

Ole Miss and State

Of course, these are extremely subjective. Each school has different things they excel in. A&M and LSU are great for petroleum engineering, Oklahoma for meteorology, Miss. State for veterinarians, Tennessee for nuclear engineering, Florida for zoologists, et cetera.

It is difficult for me to believe UGA has a 40% acceptance rate. I don't know how this is calculated, but this is difficult for me to believe. Even back in the 90's when UGA was considered a shite school, most people who applied were denied. The standards have only gotten higher since then. I'm not saying we're Vanderbilt, but 40% is off.

Looking at that list, I find it difficult to believe they were picked randomly.

Almost every public institution admitted after 2000 (that means you) is a joke. Congrats to y’all, Arizona State, Stony Brook, and USF on being the mediocre schools using your membership as “proof” that you’re not mediocre

Again, ok. LSU has 7 in Science alone

I’m “unintelligent” and you just did exactly what I pointed out that A&M does. Desperate and pathetic alumni, get a life and stop pretending anyone cares about your shitty school

UGA is right at 40% (I double-checked it) and schools with 30-45% acceptance rates are considered very selective (also Texas, UF). Acceptance rates, however, aren't the only criteria to look at when considering how tough a school is academically.

Those accepted at Georgia have taken advanced level courses and have a minimum 4.0 GPA. UGA is a very tough school. Although Florida and Texas have slightly lower acceptance rates, all 3 schools are generally the same academic-wise.

Schools like Stanford, UCLA, USC, Vanderbilt, Duke, etc., are considered most or extremely selective. Then again, most schools like these are private, not public.

EDIT: Comparing Big 10 schools....

Ohio State - 57%
Michigan - 23% (very tough school)
Wisconsin - 53% (very tough school)
Purdue - 57% (great engineering school)
Minnesota - 70%
Penn State - 76%
Iowa - 83%
Nebraska - 78%
Indiana - 78%
Illinois - 62%
Michigan State - 76%

Yes. Yes you are.

You are trying far too hard to validate yourself with your anti-A&M shtick. It's sad and pathetic.

Just sit there in your ignorance and bitterness and insecurity.

Go kick a puppy, push a little old lady in the street or beat your fat wife if it makes you feel better. You are wrong in every way possible. So just sit there in your wrongness and be wrong.

I'm "spouting off" because I did my research -- unlike you making something up by pulling it out of your ponderosa and declaring it to be true.

Do the research and find out yourself...don't be like a Commie Democrat wanting others to do the work for you.
