Still incredible how Nick Saban broke texas. Yes. Obviously nick saban is the reason mack brown stopped caring about recruiting and losing games and nick saban is the reason Charlie strong is just not head coaching material at a big school. Yes nick saban is the reasoning behind texas losing the games after the national championship.

Mack admitted losing to Bama took the drive out of him

Since 1969, Texas has won more major poll/BCS/CFP national championships than Ohio State, and three times as many as Michigan during that time frame.

Texas has the same number of national championships as Notre Dame since 1969, too.

Which isn't saying much, since the same applies to Florida and we were an average program at best before Spurrier.

Yeah...because JFK didn't show up to an Alabama game one time when he was President of the United States (he did). We've also had visits from actors such as Sela Ward, Melissa Joan Hart, David Arquette, Courtney Cox, Tom Arnold, and Eva Longoria since Saban began this run in 2008.

Let's not forget Sacha Baron Cohen's visit.

That makes no sense. I see it has 3 upvotes though so its apparently some type of low IQ burn that only Bama fans can understand. Infrahuman interspecies communications is a fascinating area of study.

I apologize for talking over your head there, Dizzy...go see if you can find a clue to call your own, then get back to me.

Texas had history before DKR unlike Florida before Spurrier.

But both programs have some similarities in that we both have had two great coaches and a bunch of wannabes
Difference is Texas' great coaches coached much longer at Texas and our wannabe coaches still won conference championships multiple times and finished in the Top 10.

Even though he cheated, Charley Pell was the coach who got Florida going in the 1980s. He showed what was possible and Spurrier built on that when he took over six years after Pell was forced out.

And yes, Korin, I recognize those SEC titles from the mid-80s that the Gators were forced to vacate. They were won on the field and therefore deserved to be claimed.

Texas was already in trouble well before the Bama loss. McCoy and Shipley helped hide things on the field while Muschamp and Applewhite provided what little effort and accountability the staff had in them. The core issue was the staff sellout after 2005 led by Mack Daddy, his old cronies followed his lead and were flat out lazy. Happens most everywhere when programs get long in the tooth at the top.. Penn St, FSU, Tennessee etc.. Another reason why Saban is so exceptional, he stays hungry, hard working, innovative and doesn't allow for complacency. Knew the asst S&C at Texas during the last years of the Mack Brown era. He thought he was walking into the premier oppty in the country only to find out it was a cesspool of laziness and delusional self value. Cycles.. shyt happens. Flush and start over.

This is all correct. Bama had nothing to do with it.

My biggest memory of that game is Marcell Dareus flinging Gilbert around like a rag doll. Still makes me laugh.

I've always found the "woulda coulda shouldas if Colt didn't get hurt" from utx fans interesting. Especially since they barely got past ou that season, after taking Bradford out in the 1st qtr.

They barely got past a 6-6 A&M team, who was able to score at will on that overrated defense.

They barely got past Nebraska, needing assistance from the officials to win.

beating a rival on the road by 10 pts="barely got past"?

Aggy is historically a .500 team, a 6-6 was nothing unique to them. In the 76 times Texas beat A&M I doubt a 10 point margin was the norm, much less on their own turf.

I don't recall the number of possessions for each team, but shouldn't you have won if you were "able to score at will on that overrated defense"?
