don't know, he just seems like the type who would/could make up his mind then keep it to himself the entire season, so as not to rock the boat.. no way announcing now helps his team this year that I can see.

If he did retire now then someone really ticked him off recently at SC. I would be surprised if he did. Probably some statement about new discipline measures or something.

I just hope Spurrier doesn't go down the Favre path and can't decide when to hang it up.

He said last season 2 to 3 more years. If he says the same thing today, he is just extending the obvious of what is to come.

I get the feeling this is going to be something minor. Too much build up.

Uh, you can try? There were still months left of the recruiting cycle, I'm not saying those would have been the final rankings if Spurrier had not made that comment, but at the time he made that comment, SC's was floating around #4-6 for several months before the rush of decommitments.

gives them the entire season to find a coach. or would it be better to leave in january and risk having your entire recruiting class fall apart and hope you can find a coach in a couple weeks

Except ADs usually don't start the coaching search until after bowl games are over, so that doesn't fit.

frickin' hellfire..dammit to hell and back. This cannot be good. Are they live streaming the presser? I haven't heard anything about this except from you, Grad.

Son of a bitch...must be about someone important for him to call a presser. Please God...not Pharoh Cooper. I'm praying hard that maybe it's actually good news...but I know it's not.

well usually coaches don't announce they're retiring before the season either. they're fired or get another offer after the season ends

Snap out of it woman. This is most likely nothing.

I'll edit the OP with a live-stream feed if/when such a link surfaces.

Agents would be contacted, but no direct contact with a head coach. AD's wouldn't allow it and I'm not fresh with the memory of the NCAA rules.

When did Holtz announce his retirement? I know it was made known before the final game against Clemson. Was it just the week before or earlier?

I know he did help recruit Spurrier here, hopefully Spurrier will do the same (whenever that is)

Did you drop a dime on the HBC like you did those High School football players in Wisconsin after they picked another school besides Nubraska?

so... you're basing this on the POTENTIAL of signing a Top Five class?

Is this the equivalent to a "moral victory"?
