It's far from a lock that recruits will buy it and that spurrier is here for the long term, whatever that means. His age is what it is.

The "misconception" that was started by ... Spurrier.

I'm referring to the talk that he was retiring this offseason.

Spurrier and the school quickly fixed the "1-2 more years" quote, but there are still schools actively using that quote against him, despite Spurrier repeatedly saying otherwise.

Nothing can be done to fix what he said, but this sure was a desperate attempt at doing so.

If sc goes 7-5 with losses to big rivals, would it be far fetched for him to quit? No way.

You say that but it would be two in a row. And 2016 would be no different.
With players he would have to get from the bargain bin.

SC thinks of UGA, Clemson, UF, and UT as its rivals.

no, no we don't. clemson is he rival. once you start tossing out the term to 'rival' to half a dozen other teams, it loses it's meaning.

He sure is thin-skinned for someone who likes to toss around verbal jabs at everyone.

It's driving him up the wall that UT is getting media love for the same record while SC isn't and that we've won the last two against him. And I don't don't for a moment we've stolen a recruit he wanted here or there (he grew up a fan and going to Neyland with his Dad). That's why he keeps bringing up the 7-6 thing and the fact he wanted to play here but we were running an OLD system at the time with the great irony being (esp. since freshmen didn't play) that we switched the year after his recruitment and thus he'd likely have been our QB.

That's why Bert said he thought the comment was "more about the orange and white," than Arky. UT has always been the team he loves to pick on as well as beat more than any other because of the home state thing. And it's got to sting that we beat his best SC team with one of our worst the season before last and then this past season then after one helluva coaching job by him and a lead in the final few minutes that should have sealed anyone's fate (odds were run after the game by ESPN regarding the time we had left to comeback and the odds of it happening and they were pretty much impossible).

But last season's win, Pharoh Cooper shattered all school records and nothing about it was the offense's fault. Their D just got burnt by Dobbs and some damn good playcalling near the end of the game. AND our D finally decided to show up at the very end of the game which is really the reason we won.

Add in that I doubt we're alone in stealing recruits and he's frustrated as hell.

Maybe You don't, but we can dismiss such an opinion because it differs from most of your fan base.

Nope. That would be UGA due to what happened to him as a player at UF.

We're gonna have to agree to disagree. Although he loves slinging barbs at UGA as well so he hates you a lot. However, I am curious about what happened to him as a player there (I'm assuming during a Cocktail Bowl)?

We beat uf's arse in 1966 by planting sos in the turf all day. Sos still won the heisman, but Uga won the sec. Dooley then passed over him as his replacement.
