STOP. I am an LSU fan, too, who went and graduated from MSU. Whole family was from LA and I was born in Thibodaux, LA, but then moved to Columbus, MS as a kid. MSU was there, cheap and I had a job to pay for school. Still a die hard LSU fan.

I don't get this either. The reason I gravitate to college ball and not the pros is because I feel like, no matter how small, I have something in common with the players...that I have some experiential equity in the product.

Those boneheads that go to one school and cheer for another should stick to the NFL, where merely by buying a jersey, you can claim to be "a fan".

'course that would wipe out 90% of the gump fans.

I cheer for both. Youre the bone head that thinks in black and white apparently. I rocked my Maroon sweatshirt to work today because Im proud of my education. Buy my whole like has been LSU. Im not quitting because i attended another school. My kids cheer for both as well.

Being a fan doesnt mean you have to have gone there. So people who didnt go to college at all or people who are in hs cant cheer? Not real fans because they arent old enough.

You sir are the crap fan that makes college football intolerable. and i live around a TON of gumps.

I was just talking with one last night. On my mind as to how State can achieve so much and some still think they deserve better.

I too am a big Merlin believer, and catch flack from some LSU friends. And though had him as a second tier hopeful behind Herman and Fisher, do think DM at the right platform could be a monster HC. Always has MSU competent and competitive regardless of talent and depth levels.

Now, as for the quirky workout facility/ex-players fiasco, Foley blackball on hiring process thing, or whether he could recruit well as an elite program HC, etc..not well versed on his question marks.

Mullen is better than you got now. People say Herman is top tier but its difference between AAC and P5

There are coaches out there that could do some things better than Mullen, and do some things worse than Mullen. Like recruiting vs qb development.

I have to disagree. Mullen does the best he can with recruiting for where he is at. What is his average recruiting rank compare to croom and Sherrill?

Mullen does about the best "he's" gonna do, correct. After 8 seasons, we have a good sample of it. But it's not that simple. There are coaches that could out recruit Mullen at State by the rankings, but that doesn't necessarily mean they'd win more games than Mullen. Recruiting is convoluted, and Mullen recruits and develops the most important position, the best. At the same time, he isn't likely to sign a 5 star RB, or WR, either. Sherrill and even Croom were able to land some those type guys at those positions. However, the qb position was usually lacking. It's give and take.

Name some 5* that Croom got. Dixon maybe was a 5 star. There might have been another runningback and linebacker that was a 5 star. Mullen has 2 recruits that had 5 stars. Jones and Simmons. I might be missing some on both ends. I will tell you that I think Mullen fails at game preparation. How many times that State fell behind early by a couple of scores but never could recover. We outscored the opponents the rest of the game but terrible starts. I can name a hand full from the past 3 seasons including this one.

We may could do better but we could definitely do worse. As others have said, my only real frustration is it seems like he flirts with other jobs every offseason. Aside from that, I have no huge complaints as every coach we could get is going to have weaknesses. The main reason I want to hang onto him as long as possible is what he does with QBs. We're never going to recruit at the level of Bama, LSU, etc. but the great equalizer is the QB position. We're set there for the next two years and we have, by far, the best QB recruit we've ever had coming in this class. If we're going to ever get back to Atlanta, it has to be behind great QB play and Mullen is as good of an option to provide that as anyone.

I am a well known anti-Mullen guy. I generally think his play-calling is atrocious, his loyalty to playing certain players over others despite all sense or evidence to the contrary, loyalty to coaches who haven't been performing well recruiting wise or developing their group(Hevesy), unbashfully going after jobs and being left stuck with us and we're left stuck with him, his energy level in some games. Often times it looks like he just doesn't give a shite.

Now we look at what LSU has done...lol..

I'll hold on to Mullen thanks.

I have bashed LSU for firing Miles and to only hire a HC with a losing record. If State fired Mullen, it would be just like what LSU did with Les.

I honestly don't give a shite who you pull for, but when people say "my whole family are fans of (insert SEC school) and so am I, but I graduated from (insert completely different SEC school)" they just sound pathetic to me.

I feel sorry for you, more than anything.

No State fan/alum that I know has called for his job. The overall body of work has been very good over 8 years. It is easy to cherry pick some games here and there to bash him over but OTOH you find a number games where he exceeded as a coach and our team did as well. So that cuts both ways.
I maintain he is underrated as a recruiter. Why? On the field each year we generally have a solid team so he must be doing something right on the recruiting side of the coin.
Plus some of your recruiting rankings are so subjective.
How do you determine that a certain TE from Arkansas is better than a TE from SC or a OL from AL is better than one from LA or a DB from FL is better than one from TN and on. So he may be good at evaluating players and projecting how they will develop.
Back to the original ? of this thread. Everybody I know is happy that DM is our coach and they want him to continue on being our HC.

Does for me. If that makes me a "crap fan" so be it. I couldn't give two shits about any other team but my alma mater.

There was a time this year I would have wanted him gone just cause I am tired of him always wanting to leave and it has effected recruiting. However the team wins a couple games and it is not a terrible thing to keep him. He has been more committed this year but maybe it's cause no one wants him thisbuear
