I don't think anything has really happened to make him the favorite. He is the default #1 right now because Saban trusts his work ethic, he's the oldest, etc., but I don't think that means much outside of the order or reps to start out.
I think, from comments and such, that Batman/Cornwell/Barnett are going to battle it out into the fall. Sounds like Cornwell's head is on straight and he is having a solid spring.

The Arkansas QB battle should be interesting to follow in the next few months. There doesn't seem to be that much separating a crop of 4 highly touted QBs with AA having the slight edge at the moment.
I think Austin is clearly ahead of the others. If reports are true at this point Rafe is 2nd.

Just looking at the list right now, it's pretty unimpressive, but some guys could always improve.
Yep, there are about 5 different QBs who could be second best in the league. Not a great list by any means at this point.

I'd say third. Kelly and Dobbs are clearly the 1 and 2 going into the season.

Agree - though I still think Dobbs has some serious deficiencies.
Kelly is a star, though.

Dobbs should be second but I would not be surprised if a QB jumps him in terms of performance. Have not been that impressed with him to this point. His accuracy is really hit or miss. Now I would be surprised if one of these QBs turns out to be better than Kelly

It could easily happen. I'm just talking about preseason though. You can't put anyone else ahead of him right now.

As would I. I'd be surprised if he isn't far and away the best all season.

If the season started right now, it would be fitz but personally I like Staley.

Ya, I agree at this point. I would have to pick him at second right now.

Agree. He is kind of a default #2 because he runs well, has played a lot and doesn't have awful passing numbers (mainly because of how risk averse he is/they are throwing the ball, but still).

Basically this. The rest of the returning starters are just flat out unimpressive.

Very uninformed statement there with no merit. Some of the best QB's in SEC history had to wait their turn behind some of the biggest no names in the conference. By your rationale, why couldn't Peyton Manning beat out Jerry Colquitt or Todd Helton his freshman year? Or...
Eli Manning over Ramaro Miller
Danny Wuerfful over Terry Dean
Matt Stafford over Joe Tereshinski III
Aaron Murray over Joe Cox.
It happens all the time man. Jacob Eason may not be ready with the terminology of the offense to start the season out in front of Greyson. Doesn't mean he is starting his career out as anything less than what he could become later.

Kirby seems like the time of person who would stick with the QB with most experience. I don't think it necessarily points to anything about Eason.

Alabama and Auburn QB battles are both up in the air. Any of those three guys could be the starter and same applies to Auburn imo.

Lock should be the guy at Mizzou, unless injury hits.
I know he was pretty God awful last fall, but I'd expect him to be much improved this season. He probably shouldn't have played last fall as a true freshmen, except in mop up work.
He's working with an actual QB coach now. Last year's QB coach was Andy Hill. Hill's a great recruiter and a good coach...at WR where he is now. He really had no business coaching QB's. So, that should help.
He'll also be helped by improvement in the receivers and hopefully the running game. There's some good young talent at WR, that appear to be actually capable of catching the ball. Mizzou was just wrecked with injuries at RB last season, so hopefully they'll be improved.
Big question again...the o-line. They're down to just 8 healthy lineman, so that probably won't be good at all. Lock will need to get the ball out FAST to have success.
In short, if Lock doesn't get the ball out fast, he'll be running for his life. So, I'd look for quick hitting passes and maybe lots of screens. Long developing plays probably won't happen because the line won't be able to hold the blocks long enough.

It will be interesting to see how much better he gets with an off-season of number 1 reps.

eason has been through less than 10 practices in his college career.
What an idiot for not being named starter already!
