As much as I hate to insult Spurrier by the comparison, this reminds me of Terry Bowden at Auburn. Midway through the season he wanted to be assured he was coming back the next year, and the AD told him that they would evaluate after the season was over. That wasn't good enough so Bowden quit and walked right then and there.

If Spurrier was going out on his own terms, he wouldn't have started by saying he's resigning and not retiring.

That's what someone says when their boss tells them they can either resign or get fired.

It's clear that he wasn't fired or forced out at this point. I think this is very Spurrier. He saw it was time to go and he's not waiting around. I think he's right especially for recruiting purposes. He looks like a huge burden has been lifted from his shoulders. He nearly broke up, though. Seemed aw fully fidgety.

Tanner says it'll be a national coaching search done in a thorough and timely fashion ... and that Coach Elliot will be in the running.

I always like Elliott's emotion. It'll be a little tough seeing him at another school next year.

Spurrier to UCF? Just a crazy thought. O'Leary is stepping down at the end of the season. Spurrier has resigned, not retired. Eh, probably not.
