Listening to him, it makes total sense.

He's going out like a man. He's doing it for the program.

He's got a 2PM tee time to make, brah. Retirement Pressers don't get in the way of that.

He's the second greatest coach in the history of the SEC and the single biggest pain in the arse on two legs that UGA has ever had to deal with.

He should be happy and at peace.

Yep, he got fired.
As much as I hate to insult Spurrier by the comparison, this reminds me of Terry Bowden at Auburn. Midway through the season he wanted to be assured he was coming back the next year, and the AD told him that they would evaluate after the season was over. That wasn't good enough so Bowden quit and walked right then and there.

Damn .... he almost got choked up talking about his players.

He is handling this like a man.

Says winning 18 straight home games was his favorite moment here at SC.

Was that the closest we've seen Spurrier come to getting emotional?

Yeah....sounds like he got fired and they wanted to keep it hush till the end of the season. Spurrier wanted no parts of being "Bowden'd" like FSU did.

I respect him for that

He is handling this like a man. When you get a little older you'll understand.

ETA: When you reach a certain point in your life, and the day comes when it hits you like a hammer ... you realize you're seriously on the downhill side of your life, that most of it is in your rear view mirror.

The things he is saying - a lot of men, when they reach this point will never admit, especially publicly, in front of millions.

He's almost choked-up a couple of times but he kept it in.

He's handling it like a man.
