Spurrier never went undefeated. Dooley did.

Really? I have to admit that this surprises me. While I liked the smash mouth and defense style of football played back then, I was never a big Dooley fan.

I also have to admit that while I hated facing Spurrier, I thought his barbs were always funny, no matter who they were aimed at.

I kind of place him in the same category as Muhammed Ali in being the sports figure you love to hate and hate to love.

Timing is relevant. Kirby would only have 1 championship in the pre-CFP format. His 2021 squad would have never made the championship game after being blow out by Bama in Atlanta.

Spurrier had a handful of top 4 teams that would’ve made the CFP tournament so you never know.

Make no mistake about it, he left South Carolina mid-season to not have a worse winning percentage then Vince Dooley. He laid awake all night concerned about it, and decided to hang it up.

It’s comical how many fans of different teams try to take credit for “making Spurrier quit.” None of them actually paid attention to what Spurrier himself said.

The fact was he had lost his “give a damn.” He had enough self-awareness to recognize it and make his own decision.

As a Gamecock fan, I wish he had left at the end of the previous season- and left us in better shape. His last full season showed that we were declining. He made some poor coaching hires and backed off on being involved in recruiting. Fact is he was getting old and slowing down, plus missed on his best shot at a championship when he had Clowney, Jefferey, Shaw, Lattimore and other star players on the roster.

He wanted to leave earlier but Ray Tanner talked him into staying. And it wasn’t that LSU, Georgia, Clemson or A&M beat us. It was that neither Spurrier nor the roster had any gas left in the tank. Never mind that our AD then completely screwed the pooch by hiring Muschamp.

Spurrier was an amazing coach. He changed the entire conference for the better. He may not have had the record of Saban or even Smart, but he also didn’t have their advantages.

Excuse me, Kirby has a natty where he won every game he played. So does Dooley. Spurrier never did that.

Kirby has won 2 nattys during Saban’s tenure at Bama. Dooley won a natty when the Bear was at Bama. That’s harder than winning a natty when fat Phil was at Tennessee. Lol.

Plus Spurrier never had to deal with NIL or the transfer portal.

We don’t know that. If AL hadn’t been admitted in 2017, UGA prob wins that NC., very nearly did anyway. We dont know if UGA loses the 2021 SECC if they weren’t afforded a bye to the playoff.

Sometimes you catch a break with a loss and get to play for the NC and sometimes you don’t.

Dude won like 6 SECC which is grown man accomplishments. You need to be good and fortunate to win the NC. He also coached in an era of Bobby Bowden

That was his only problem at UF. As good as his teams were, many of Bowden's were truly elite. Bowden was a thorn in his side.

You started the hypotheticals by suggesting that Kirby would only have 1 natty if he coached in the pre-playoff era. That’s speculation. You don’t know that.

And you go and reach another level of stupidity...God, you take stupid and cringe to a whole new level...

It is a different era of football; it's like comparing apples and oranges
