Oh man 2001 was awesome. Complete underdogs on the road. Last good win till Florida 2005.

I'm confused by this:

quote:
1971 presents the most analogous situation to the 2010 matchup. Both teams entered the game undefeated (the only time in history the two played the Iron Bowl with perfect records), and were playing for a chance to face Nebraska in the national title game. The most-hyped Iron Bowl to date turned out to be a dud however, as the Crimson Tide defeated the Tigers soundly.

How is that game analogous to the 2010 Iron Bowl?

Maybe he meant to compare it to this year not 2010.

2005

Bama had already lost to LSU that year giving LSU the lead in the SEC West

He is STILL wrong. UA/AU were both undefeated going into the 1994 IB

1972 and 1994 are obvious misses

That would make sense

Wasn't Auburn still under a bowl ban in 94?

"Any list that doesn't include 1985 at the top"

I think 1985, 1972, and 1982 stand out among all the Iron Bowls.

1985 - greatest 4th quarter in Iron Bowl history

Mmmm, not so much.

I have watched that game several times on "Classic College Football" and keep praying the bastard misses it.

No, Alabama wasn't officially sanctioned until early 1995. Alabama was ranked 4th going into the 1994 Iron Bowl with Auburn a top 10 team as well. Alabama had little chance of jumping either Nebraska or Penn State that year even if they had beaten Florida in the SEC title game.

Yes but he wrote "Both teams entered the game undefeated (the only time in history the two played the Iron Bowl with perfect records)" I fricking hate lazy journalists.

Only thing I can think is when he says "perfect" he means undefeated and untied.

Auburn came into the Iron Bowl with a tie on their record in '94, so he is right. They both did not have a perfect record in '94

Ironically, I feel a tinge of nervousness watching Auburn's kicker hook the game winning field goal in 1984. Everyone remembers that game for wrong way Bo but forget that Auburn had about a 45 yard last second field goal attempt to win the game.
