I shite you not, I will miss Dave South when he's gone.

Me too.

As terrible as he is technically with play by play (and make no mistake, he is AWFUL ), hearing his voice on the radio brings back some great memories of listening to Aggie games with my Dad growing up. Used to turn the garage into a little slice of gridiron heaven, and fall weekends were highlighted by Dave South on the radio/Aggie game on TV on Saturdays, and Brad Sham on the radio/Cowboys game on TV on Sundays.

It'll be the end of an era when South is done.

If we're counting WWII propaganda films, then add 'We've Never Been Licked' to the list. This movie was filmed on campus and was also released under the alternate titles 'Texas to Tokyo' and 'Fighting Command'. This film features Robert Mitchum as Panhandle Mitchell.

Japanese spies!!! In College Station, Texas!!!!!

Synopsis:
quote:

Army brat Brad Craig enters A&M with a chip on his shoulder which upperclassmen quickly knock off. Once adjusted, Craig falls in love with a professor's beautiful daughter, only to find she is in love with his roommate. In the meantime, Craig unwittingly associates with Japanese spies (one played by William Frawley of I Love Lucy) bent on stealing a secret chemical compound developed in the A&M Chemistry Department. Craig is drummed out of the Corps for being a suspected accomplice to the spies, but he then bravely infiltrates the spy network to sabotage the Japanese war effort. Many A&M traditions are referenced in this film.

This film had better be subtitled.

what about the LSU vs Loyola Marymount Basketball game in 1990?

People seem to forget that the week before, LSU knocked off #5 UNLV 107-105.

The Loyola game was exciting, but there was just more satisfaction in knocking off Tark's team.

Might be more of a 30 by 30:

1. Pam Parsons (women's basketball coach who had affair with a player).
2. Fan support during 21 game losing streak.
3. Pops (37 year old walk on to the football team).
4. Baseball and how the new ballpark coincided with the back to back CWS wins
5. Marcus Lattimore -- what he did for USC & how he overcame two knee injuries to become a star in the NFL.

Great list. I would take Shaq out though and put in the story of Cannon. Heisman to HOF to prison, back to the HOF. I'm assuming we don't need to count the Lolo story in the 5?

They could do the Skip Bertman one a week after the Ron Polk story as a MSU fan said. Back to back weeks during the NCAA tournament on off nights.

A great story that is probably too hard to tell now would be the 1917 A&M team that went unbeaten, untied, and unscored upon. Then they all enlisted en masse and served in WWI and came back in 1919 and went unbeaten, untied, and unscored upon AGAIN.

Jackie Sherrill would make a great 30 for 30. Bama guy that played for Bear and went on to be a cult hero at both A&M and Miss State.

The story of the '85 and '67 A&M teams have a lot of color to them, both finishing with dramatic Cotton Bowl wins over Bear at Bama and Bo at Auburn.

"The Burning Desire" about the '99 Bonfire game essentially is a 30 for 30 and won a ton of awards. "The Junction Boys" is well done also.

That does sound like it would make an awesome piece.

I like the McConaughey idea, but only if he narrates it and is credited as "Wooderson".

My Dad and I were too... when the bottle hit the security guard in the head the Auburn AD officials said "frick it" and turned the water on.

It was fricking awesome! The UGA whining was just as good then as the Fairley whining was two years ago. "We got wet! It was cold!"

Dave South is a really good guy as well and is my parents' neighbor. He and his wife came down with fresh baked cookies to welcome my parents to the neighborhood within hours of the moving truck showing up. I always see Dave out in his yard messing with his RV, he loves to go to all the road games he can that way.

He truly loves A&M and has that great voice but damn he is hard to follow.
