to say that robert edwards or travis henry was a better back in college than kevin faulk is absurd, I'm sorry. I can MAYBE see the the argument for jamaal lewis but that's it.

Terrel Davis...certainly wasn't player he was in the NFL but also had the misfortune of having Ray Goff as his coach.

4- Kevin Faulk

jeez louise, Kev is still criminally underrated. I know stats aren't everything but goodness gracious when he left LSU he was #2 rushing all time in SEC history, #2 in touchdowns all time in SEC history and #1 in total yards all time in SEC history and the guy can't even crack the top 3 of some people's list of best backs of the mid-90's?

Kevin Faulk did have 2,000 more yards from scrimmage than Lewis (5,157 - 3,152). Then again, Faulk played in 41 games and Lewis only played in 27. In the 909 plays Faulk carried or caught the ball, he averaged 5.7 yards per play. Lewis carried or caught the ball 526 times averaging 6.0 yards per play. Before his injury in 1999, he was averaging 6.8 yards per carry (this included UT's narrow win over #2 Florida).

So, I would take a healthy Lewis over a healthy Faulk...but were I concerned about injury...I may go with Faulk over Lewis.

How much you played matters though. otherwise I could just say Cecil Collins was the best even though he only played 4 games.

People tend to forget about USC in these types of discussions. Understandable.

Cecil was the best. But wasnt on op's list.

I have never seen a better back. Ever.

Too bad he was a thug with a bum knee

Where is stephen davis?

He had 3153 yards and 35 tds in just three years. And that first year was as a true freshman where he only had 6000 yards off the bench behind bostic.

If we had joined the SEC in the 90's, these RB's would be on your list too.

Greg Hill 3,567 AP yds and 36 TD

Leeland McElroy 4,196 AP yds and 40 TD

Rodney Thomas (RIP) 3,484 AP yds and 45 TD

Yeah, he had a pretty outstanding SR year with over 1,100 rushing and another 489 receiving.

He was a host on one of our Gamecock radio shows but has been on the Eagles staff since 2010 (an RB coach now I believe).

Also, looking up that info I found this pic from the '96 game. Perhaps my all-time favorite Gamecock uniform combination (along with garnet helmets, black shirt, and white pants from that era). Can't see it in that pic but they say GAMECOCKS across the front.
