Too soon of a hire for this to be true. Sounds like agent talks.

Not really. I'm pretty sure Scott Stricklin had feelers out that if he were to can Ray he could make a decent hire. Howland wants back in coaching bad, and it doesn't look like many major jobs will open(State, Bama, and DePaul right now) this year. I could see this about being a done deal when Ray was canned. Andy Katz tweeted we should go after Howland right after Ray's firing was announced, so word might have leaked.

Would be a great hire imo .... Was hoping Bama would give him a look but evidently aren't . Which is dumb bc the guy can coach .

Mississippi State fans now fascinated with Ben Howland, huh?

Fact: Howland has never played, coached, recruited, or lived in the South.
Some one who took a school to three straight final fours and has coached the amount of NBA players he has will have immediate respect from any recruit.

Good thing we aren't some bottom tier SEC basketball school such as OM.

We are undoubtedly the worst basketball program in the conference, but y'all's history is nothing to brag about at all. The only reason y'all consider yourselves to have a decent basketball history is because all you know how to do is compare yourselves to Ole Miss in all things.

An OM fan comes in a State thread to throw shade on our hire but we are the ones obsessed with OM? Also, you never heard me brag, and I wasn't wrong in saying MSU isn't a bottom tier basketball school. That's reserved for USC, OM, Auburn, ATM.

We averaged over 20 wins a season from 2000 until Ray got here and had more SEC championships (Outright, Tourney, or Division) than any team other than Kentucky in that time?

Pretty sure it was a done deal before we fired Ray. Heard there should be an announcement Tuesday.

That's awfully fast. Y'all sure it's not just Howland pushing his name? He seems to do that with a lot of openings. Based on how many times I've heard his name associated with another school as all but officially announced, I just wonder if it's really that done of a deal.

A done deal? Interesting. I thought Bama would be talking to him but I have no proof or sources to back that up. If yall do lock him down and we strike out on the big name we need, UA hoops fans will not be happy.

Hasn't officially been announced that he is our guy so I think most of us are smart enough not to go all in on Howland yet.

Eta: actually, considering our fan base, I will change "think" to I "hope" most of us are smart enough

I haven't heard it was a done deal; just assuming if there is to be an announcement Tuesday, you'd have to think it must have been to get the hire this fast.

Christian Laettner wants into coaching.

I think he would be an excellent fit for Starkville.

I haven't been following or reading boards. Is Prohm not a top candidate for Bama? I would rather have him than Howland.
