I think it's a great hire for Tennesseee if it happens. Good luck finding someone with a better resume than Holbrook to take that job that isn't a huge risk. It isn't like Holbrook was awful, just didn't do well enough for South Carolina.
And coaches generally learn and develop as they gain experience. Holbrook is only 46 years old. Tennessee would be fortunate to land him, IMO.

The biggest thing I was worried about was the "who will we get to replace him" question. With the short list of ppl that Tanner has talked to that has actually expressed interest, I don't have that concern as much any more.

Probably though most likely not any better than Les Miles.

Holbrook is pretty well-respected as a coach, especially with pitchers. The arms he's produced from UNC and USC is quite impressive and he'll get his share of kids to Knoxville. I'm not saying it's an amazing hire but if I were a Vols fan I'd be more excited than if they hired some flavor-of-the-month guy from a place like East Arkansas Tech because his squad made the tournament and beat a blueblood.
Not every hire has to be "greatest ever" or "worst ever."

If UK makes the CWS and in the next 5 years both the Gators and the Cats push the buttchuggers sh*t in every season, the Vols will care. Fans will embrace the hate wherever they find it, that is the true nature of sports in a true "US vs THEM" human nature world. Assuming that you do have a genuine interest in the sport and its not fueled by the preds being in the stanley cup finals, you have to know that if UTk did for some unknown reason get a hockey team that they would stand a 0% chance of even getting to .500 in your lifetime.

Just as it was at UK but a new AD and new media deal and suddenly UK has gone farther and is building a new 50 million baseball stadium. I may be old but I can see the writing on the wall and can see a different future far removed from the others in my age category.
