quote:That's if he lives "happily ever after". How many guys have you seen leave super situations at "non-elite" schools for the big time only to not meet the staggering expectations of the multitude?..or realize that they aren't happy with all the pressure and spotlight? Very few of those guys ever regain the life they had before they left for that big time job....and got kicked to the curb.
That's like saying Todd Herman would be a fool to turn down Texas since he was a king in Houston
Indiana is next level job. WSU is great if getting to the final 4/elite 8 is your championship. If you want to win championships and compete for them years, Indiana is where he will go

Exactly. Crean brought them more success than they have had in a VERY long time.
He'll kill it at Mizzou

I don't think a couple of a Sweet 16 trips and cutting down the nets after a home loss is the best they seen in a long time. They were in the Championship Game and Sampson had them going until the NCAA came sniffing. But Crean would be a solid hire for Mizzou if it happens. He is a good fit for CoMo.
Basketball is way different then football. Need a coach to get talent (not much) and coach them up. The right coach can get IU back quickly.

He took over a program with ONE scholarship player. ONE
They haven't won a title in 30 years. It's a blueblood school, but most of their success is 20+ years ago.
They've reached the sweet 16 4 times in the past 22 seasons, Crean is responsible for 3 of those. They've won their conference 3 times in the past 23 seasons, Crean is responsible for 2 of those.
If we hire Crean, he's instantly the 3rd most accomplished coach in this league and Howland is at MSU where it might be difficult for him to be a real factor. Little doubt that Crean would have Mizzou a MAJOR player in the SEC once he got the ball rolling.

Like I said, he would be a perfect fit for Mizzou.

Ive never cared for Crean.
In 8 seasons at Indiana, 6 of those have been .500 or less in league play.
.438 win pct. at Indiana in league play
5 losing seasons as a head coach
5 seasons total, with less than 10 losses

He took them over at their lowest point in school history. It was a disaster complete with sanctions he had to work with. By year 4, he won the Big 10. The first 3 years there essentially are meaningless.
This year he lost two of his best players to injury. Before they got hurt he beat kU and UNC. They would have been a tourney team at the very least without those injuries. Probably challenge for the Big 10 tourney again.

I have never been the biggest Crean fan but he's got to be an upgrade over KA. At this point my cat would be a coaching upgrade for Missouri. Hopefully Mizzou lands a good one, it would be great to have Arkansas and Missouri both return to being basketball powers.

No way this is true, but Crean would be a good hire for Mizzou IMO.

What is the luster of IU?
The game has completely passed that place. Bloomington is a nice town but they really don't have the draw at all anymore.
It's a very Arkansas situation honestly and at least we have a shite ton of money and a top 5 arena.

Why? Not saying this is the best job, but when you get canned, you're sorta limited?

Crean's offense would do well at Mizzou and against the SEC.

Lot's of smoke about this...from both sides. As mentioned, IN fans are stuck in the past and seem to expect a national title every year. Crean's had more success at IN since Knight's prime, but that fact seems to escape them. He's won two Big 10 titles in the last four years, including a 27 win team last season. They've been hit hard with injuries this season, hence their mediocre record. They posted two top 5 type wins earlier this season when they were healthy.
Why would Crean move to Mizzou? Well, believe it or not, Mizzou is still considered a good basketball job, plus all the people getting in the way of the basketball program before are now gone. Mizzou's had good success in the last 40 years, with 25 NCAA trips in that time frame. That's coupled with multiple conference titles and four Elite Eight runs, but yes, no Final Fours. There are real expectations to do well at Mizzou, but not unreachable expectations like IN has.
So, Crean knows that he's on the way out. The big question is does it happen this year or next? If it happens this year, Mizzou could prove to be an ideal fit for him. He's also recruited Missouri better than the last two coaches, so he's got that going for him.

MO is a gold mine for basketball recruits. Heck, 2 of Creans better players right now are from Missouri.

Since 2002 (post Richardson), IU has made the sweet 16 as many times as Arkansas has made the NCAAT. IU is in a Kentucky w/ Gillespie situation. Try again
That isn't a knock on Arkansas, they are top 3 program in SEC and have a solid argument for #2. There just is a clear difference between the "blue blood" programs and everyone else
As a huge Georgetown fan, I view Arkansas in a similar situation to them. Both of clearly not Indiana level programs
