The SEC needs to go back to it's pre-1991 line up.

Alabama
Auburn
Florida
Georgia
Kentucky
LSU
Mississippi
Mississippi State

SI is reporting “There are behind the scenes talk with @ESPN, @FoxSports, the #B1G and #SEC reps about how to dump those schools who bring nothing to the TV table.“

SI is not "reporting" this. This is per a podcaster/youtube guy, that at least I have never hear of, who said this on twitter. RTFA.

This is football only I'd assume. Conferences should go back to how they were before if they do this.

Good. Networks shouldn’t be paying tens of millions to conferences if half the games won’t have the viewers to justify it.

Bring in Clemson, FSU and kick out the scrubs to the Big12 or G5. Tradition and rivalries just aren’t a big deal. Money matters. That’s capitalism

Glad you understand why State will get the boot!!!

Baseball programs also matter, and the Mississippi schools are fine for this reason.

Not in terms of TV revenue.

Arkansas is safe.

Even when we’re awful, it’s usually still entertaining for the rest of y’all to watch.

We are in the upper 1% crust of sailing. That's 1% nationally.

Obviously I hope this would never happen but NIL and all the rest have screwed things up so badly that it'll be hard to get back to a semblance of normalcy anyway.

If the PTB are talking football only, based on the past 10-15 years, I can see where Arkansas standing would be in jeopardy. If you add in baseball, basketball (not so much lately) along with track and field, then no way Jose. We are consistently in the top 5 for the overall athletic program ranking, especially in the SEC and often nationally.

Having said that, if it's all sports we would probably have more fun and success and save $ in a conference with:

If we went mostly South and east:

Arkansas
Arkansas State
Memphis
Southern Miss
Mississippi (if they are forced out)
Mississippi State (if they are forced out)
Louisiana Tech
Louisiana Monroe
Louisiana Lafayette
Tulane
Vanderbilt (if they are forced out)

If we went mostly South and west and one state north:

Arkansas
Arkansas State
Missouri (if they are pushed out)
Missouri State
Oklahoma State
Tulsa
TCU
SMU
Houston
Baylor
Rice

I wouldn't advise waiting for the call from the sports networks or the Commissioner's office asking you to join the strategy team anytime soon.

Ole Miss is preseason top 10 you fricking moron.

I would imagine this hypothetical decision would be based more on, say, the last 25 years or so, than the last season or the one coming up.

It's not about strategy, it's about history. Mizzou will always be treated like a secondary member.

This is what happens when TV execs in the Northeast who know nothing about/don't give a shite about college football run the sport.

This is true, but school officials could just as easily say keep your $. And, everyone knows that ain’t gonna happen. For them, TV execs > fans/alum/tradition.

The entire point of the article and the OP wasn’t about teams getting “dumped” because of history. It was about teams getting dumped because of strategy, I.e. how to make more money.

I’m not saying I believe it’s going to happen, but it’s 2024. These days in a battle of history versus money, money is going to come out on top!

If they're going to kick out founding SEC members for money, then why even have the SEC? Just dissolve the conference, at that point it's dead.

Why would we be? We end up in a lot of games that have high viewership for who we are, a whole state of tvs worshipping one school, and we don’t suck at everything all the time. Same with USC, they’re one of the fastest growing states and it’d be stupid to throw them out - Plus, what would we do without our Cocks.

Players are simply mercenaries for hire. Coaches are paid tens of millions when they fail. Administrators are willing to overlook literally anything to win. And conferences are sacrificing long-term traditions on the altar of TV contracts.

Which half is still functioning?
