Blue blood basketball program going to get hit as hard as a 3rd rate football program?
Remember the NCAA's largest moneymaker is the men's bball tournament....

Apparently the NCAA has some issues on jurisdiction with UNC. I'm not sure how much control the NCAA can really have over curriculum, no matter how fricked up it might be.

Crazy how convenient that is for them in this case....

Lack of institutional control doesn't pertain to the classroom. It's not like they're in college or anything.

No doubt, but UNC actually has a case that their fraud was so widespread throughout the student body that it is no longer an athletics issue and would fall outside of the NCAA's jurisdiction.

Yeah and the accreditation board has been all over this as well

nothing. the blueblood basketball programs, unc, uk, ku, ucla, duke are essentially bulletproof. I would say the same of the top football programs but USC got slapped fairly hard.

They take OM's spot in the SEC when the Black Bears get tossed out.

Football team has already been penalized by loss of scholarships for 3 years.
The current issue involves the NCAA's overreach into academic issues involving the AFAM program - which have been separately addressed by UNC. It also involves the NCAA violating their own procedures in the investigation.
The real issue is that this NCAA cloud has been lingering over the program for 7 years. Thus, the NCAA, by its delay, has already imposed de facto penalties against UNC.
At least the NCAA has now concluded its investigation against OM. They can take their medicine and now move on.

How they have maintained accreditation through this is shocking

If you went around investigating CBB programs and punished them accordingly, about half the programs would have to shut down their programs

It has more to do with the mechanics and how it is near impossible for the NCAA to prove it
These schools funnel money via Nike/UnderArmour etc to AAU Coaches/Teams that support the kids. With so many schools doing it, it is impossible for the NCAA to trace where the money is coming from without legal subpoena power.
On top of that, these kids are in and out in 1 year and the most kids it can affect is 13 scholarships. Easier to just ignore it
