Because showing up a ref is unsportsmanlike conduct. It would be no different if a player ran up and got in a refs face. (except the player would probably be flagged and ejected) There are certain things you just can't do and anybody who has watched more than 15 minutes of sports knows this.

I think Wagers had told Richt to back off. So when Richt went after the other official, he'd crossed the line.
I also don't buy that Richt was trying to motivate his team.
1) They couldn't afford that penalty.
2) If he'd planned it, he woulda stayed on Wagers.

The ball is under Louis' legs with both his hands on it. The GA defender has his hands on the ball as well.
Auburn ball because - Legs + hands > hands only.
Auburn ball because - Legs + hands > hands only.

“I got as close to his face as I could, and I said ‘You guys are the best officials in the Southeastern Conference,’” Richt said.
He's even nice when he's pissed
Which speaks to the fact that in many situations it's not so much what you say but how you say it.

But I can't believe he took a 15 yarder on purpose to fire up the team as several posters said.
Why can't you believe it? He did it in the UF game several years back. The team took his advice and held a dance-a-thug.
Richt is not a saint all the time. If he were, he'd never have hired Todd Granthug.
Didn't he bump the official too or was I seeing things.

In that picture you can't see the ball so, frickwit, tell us how it looks like JHC has the clearest possession.

Yeah, but at least you are only getting a penalty on the kick off, as opposed to extending a drive. I see your point, but that penalty saturday seemed like horrible timing if it was planned.

Come on now. You mean you have never seen a coach get in the face of an official? I've seen it dozens of times a year and have never seen a penalty called for it.
But, i wish everybody would just forget the game. We can argue it play by play if we want to, but it still goes down as a "W" for Auburn and a "L" for Georgia. Both teams played a good game, and the final break went Auburn's way.

I just wish we had a nice, calm easy going coach like Florida.

Seriously? You see penalties called on the bench every season?

Wow. I watch 6-9 hours of college football every Saturday, and I HAVE seen it called, but certainly not even every year. Maybe 2-3 times in the last 10-15 years. Obviously I am watching the wrong games!
Now...We are not talking about excessive celebration. We are talking about unsportsmanlike conduct, right?

In all honestly, I wouldn't have blamed Richt if he hauled off and demolished every SEC official on the field. I am so sick of the BS that is the SEC officiating office. The legalization of holding is just the last straw for me. This year has been beyond atrocious. Just some of the most bizarre penalties I have ever seen. "stomping?!" WTF is that bullshite!
I am sorry, but to say there is no bias in SEC officiating is just being willfully blind. Watch any SEC game, and without really even trying it is pretty easy to figure out which team the refs are watching and which ones are skating by.
As for the Murray TD- the guy with the clearest view of whether his knee was down or not called the TD. After sitting through all the replay calls for UGA this season, and seeing some completely BS calls upheld, all I will say is that if there had been ANY way to overturn that call, it would have been. Hell, I am surprised they didn't do it just on principle.
But back to this "holding" BS. The officials should be tarred and feathered for this shite show alone. People keep trying to figure out what happened to SEC defenses. Well, give a QB and extra 2-3 seconds on average due to an "anything goes" policy and see what happens in any league.

I was thinking the same thing!
I think Clemons had initial possession of the ball, and at the bottom of the pile it ...well...changed possessions. However, that is not a rare thing to happen. There are fights over the possession of the ball at the bottom of piles all the time.
"He who possesses last, possesses best!"
I think what got Richt mad, was that he saw Clemons had initial possession and was frustrated that it ended up in Auburn's hands.

I have RARELY seen it called against a coach on the sidelines. However, I can't argue with you on what you have or have not seen. Only you are the expert on that.
