You really think Kentucky players don't get paid?
Posted on 3/23/17 at 9:52 am to jb4
It's basically a one year internship for the players

Free college ed, room, food, travel, training, state of art facilities.....yeah they don't get shite. Ask the other students at Kentucky or their parents what it's like to pay for school.

They get a college scholarship. Not everyone, even at Kentucky, has pro basketball in their future and their spot could easily be taken for another jabroni. So those guys have no market value.
As for the one-and-dones, well, they get a showcase for their talents. Consider it an internship. They're getting paid enough and probably getting lots under the table in many cases.
I would have loved to have gone to college on scholarship instead of having to simultaneously work two part-time jobs and pay my own way.

If this really offends you, protest and never watch collegiate sports again.

Ah, so you're one of those "players should get paid" fellas huh? If they are good enough, they will. Otherwise, they should enjoy their free education, and take advantage of it.

Posted on 3/23/17 at 2:28 pm to jb4
They get treated like kings and have the best path to the NBA. But those poor, poor players get nothing.

The best path to the NBA is talent. It doesn't matter what school you go to.

If you're going to make this argument, you are much better off going with football. The basketball players that are good don't even go to school for 2 full semesters and then get 3 or 4 year guaranteed contracts from the NBA. If they don't like it, they can play in Europe for a year and get drafted. The football players are the ones who really get screwed because they have to stay for 3 years and there's not really another option.
That being said, I was in Tuscaloosa recently and after seeing all the new hotels, student housing, greek houses, condos, restaurants, etc.. I can say with absolute certainty that Nick Saban is extremely underpaid for what he does and I would imagine the money Kentucky and Lexington has made since Calipari started coaching would prove he is underpaid as well.
