But they didn't (though they should have). Worried about the appearance of buying out a coach in a state that is broke. University president covering his arse in a financial crisis. And we actually care about football. We don't get a shite about basketball so we're not spending extra money to fire Jones, even though we should.

Maybe. At least Jones has gotten talent to LSU - Trent was never capable of that.
My thought is that they need to wait until they're prepared to spend real money on a good, proven coach.

LSU got every last booster they could think of and they couldn't afford Les Miles buyout... Why would they be able to find the cash to buyout a coach for a program that has never gotten them anywhere?

LSU has a FAR better basketball history than you dumb fricking aggies. more conference championships, more final 4's, more tourney appearances, etc. players like pistol pete, shaq, bob petit and chris Jackson. I can't even name ONE aggie basketball player.

Wow, that's pretty amazing if true.
I think this is his 3rd or 4th year at LSU so he has had time to build his program. I'd probably give him one more year to see if he develops the youngsters (assuming only Simmons goes pro), but the AD should definitely put a list together for replacement coaches after next season.

Special teams were weak because we didn't have enough linebackers and BDP was spending all his time in practice coaching linebackers while Steele was playing field general.
Pretty sure he was recruiter of the year too.

If Johnny doesn't keep recruiting at a high level, it will take care of itself. Recruiting is his only hope. They'll give Jones another year, who we getting if we fire him ?
