Agreed. Emmert instructed Joe Dean to do whatever it takes to get Saban here. Now, we have settled on a $3.5 million coach with an insane buyout who is paid to not do anything.

Saban loved Emmert, I read a couple of days ago that they are still very close to this day.

As mentioned, that was a revenge game for UGA at Georgia after LSU beat them twice the previous year when everyone was picking UGA to beat LSU in Atlanta in the SEC Championship. But LSU dominated them on the way to the NC. UGA came out blazing and caught everything in 2004 and it was over fast.
That was LSU's only decisive loss. The other two were to the Auburn team that went undefeated (10-9...most people remember the controversia flag on the missed extra point near the end) and LSU lost on a Hail Mary on the last play of the bowl game to Iowa with Saban already halfway out the door to Miami. To be fair, Oregon St., Troy and Ole Miss also challenged LSU that year though.

He was never looking to go to Alabama and to think he was is pretty fricking stupid. He wanted to be an NFL HC but failed miserably at it because he learned that he wouldn't always have "the most talent" on the field.

LSU was coming off 8 losing season in the previous 11 years. The facilities were well below average for the SEC and the culture had become a losing one. 2000 was a successful season by LSU standards at the time, 2001 was extremely successful for LSU at the time. 2002 was a step back but we were 6-1 and ranked #10 when our starting QB went down. 2003 was an NC and 2004, while a relative disappointment, was a team that had lost a ton off the 2003 team and was a bogus leaping call away from being back in the SECCG.
He came to LSU as Nick Saban and he left as NICK SABAN

Joe Gibbs- Multiple Super Bowls
Bill Parcells- see Above
Bobby Bowden- FSU
Don James- UDub, NC and Rose Bowls. Saban credits James for Everything.
Not a bad group there.

If Saban stayed at LSU they would’ve been like Bama has been. He’s the best recruiter and wouldn’t have been losing that in state talent
