Mizzou vs Kansas 2007
KU was 11-0, ranked No.2
Mizzou was 10-1, ranked No.4

Mizzou won 36-28. KU still hasn't recovered

And yet it was KU who went to the Orange Bowl.

They had fewer losses. Similar to Uga/UF in 2012 where you lost the Sugar to Louisville

1971 Auburn wasn't winning either. They were #6 entering that game. Even if auburn had beaten Alabama, Nebraska and Oklahoma would have been the recipient of votes.

That's debatable. From a story I read a while back, those bowl games (Bama vs. Nebraska in the Orange, Auburn vs. Oklahoma in the Sugar) were decided before the last game of the season. If that story had it correct, the #1 vs. #2 matchup that year was more coincidental than planned. Wouldn't be surprising though, as the top 2 teams rarely met in bowl games back then...

Found a link that appears to confirm that story: LINK

Off the top of my head:

Several Iron Bowls
A few Ohio State-Michigan games
A couple of Florida-Florida St. games in the 90s.
There was an Oklahoma-OSU game a few years ago where they were both in the top 10

It's a real shame OU and Nebraska don't play more. One of the professors here at UA is a huge Huskers fan, and he says he misses it. If NU would be more competitive, I think they could establish something with Wisconsin.
