Simultaneous catch. Has it been discussed?

Didn't know it was the first to get a foot down on the ground. Bad call, but never knew why.

Check didn't clear fast enough for that one.

Eric Reid caught it.

Tie goes to the receiver every time. Never heard about the "first to get a foot down" part of it.

Palmer was pretty admant on TV that the rule states that any shared catch goes to the intended receiver, not the defender. Tie goes to the runner, in other words.

By rule, I guess it is first to get foot down.

Same here. I just assumed the first with the foot down only established that it's a completion, not necessarily who had possession.

I'm not sure about the rule on who should have originally been ruled in favor of for the catch, but it was pretty much impossible to overturn what was called on the field.

It was a crazy play.

Should have been Bama's ball.

The first one was the correct call -- Auburn definitely got it -- and the second one probably wasn't. It happens.

What's bad is that the second one was reviewed extensively and none of the refs knew the "first foot down" part of the rule. I wouldn't expect a lot of fans to know it (hell I didn't, always thought it was the tie to the receiver deal) but when a whole booth who is there to specifically interpret and apply the rules doesn't it's pretty bad.

Yes it has and reviewed by the refs. They said Auburn ball. BTW did you hear Bama won the game?

Let’s look at the NCAA Rule Book, Part 2, under "interpretations'' for the answer. Under the Completed Pass, Article 6, rule 7-3-6, section 2: Two opposing players receive a legal forward pass while both are off the ground, and one payer returns to the ground inbounds before the other. Ruling: No simultaneous catch. The legal forward pass is completed or intercepted by the player who first returned to the ground

Seems like a pretty cut and dry rule. Not sure where that makes him a fool.

Word. As as fan of the game, It's nice to know the official rule in this particular scenario. I knew abt sim. catch just not this part.

Exactly my point. I never knew the rule, but the refs should know and you would think after all these years, it would come up at some point. They should just look at feet during a simultaneous catch. Easy call.

If tie goes to the receiver then LSU had best be glad those guys did not make the call on Eric Reid- Mike Williams. They would have lost in TTown.
