Firearms manufacturers are routinely dismissed as defendants in such cases. Just because I bring suit against you does not make you liable. Ford has no connection to the drunk driver thus would be dismissed as a defendant if someone were to pursue that course. It is only the entity that has some degree of control over someone else, like an employer-employee relationship, or a college administration's control over its students and policies, that give these folks the right to sue UT.

I understand there is a direct connection to the drunk driver unlike Ford but they already go after the bars who serve them so I imagine it's at least been attempted already

And if this was about money they wouldn't sue an institution as poor, broke, and deprived of money as UTk. This is about justice.

No, they go after bars who continue to serve patrons who are already clearly intoxicated, and they should.
