My point was the Pr firm and the fact the stories keep painting the President in a negative light. Did not want to edit out the athletic parts because that would be disingenuous. Sports is being used as a spotlight against the President, right or wrong, all this press makes it difficult for a savvy administrator to do a good job, let alone someone who is clearly not comfortable in press meetings.
Edit --- the sad truth is the football issue drives the story even though the academic issues are more important. If it was just the academic side, I doubt it would have even made a single headline, but that is a problem much larger than this specific issue.

2007-2013 was pretty much the destruction of the program. That is Neil Callaway's 5 years + 2 of McGee.

I'm not sure what your point is. Troy brought a couple thousand fans. The same thing happens at all the mid major schools in football. Troy hosted a 9-4 Duke and had less than 17,000 fans this year. South Alabama hosted Miss. State, Georgia Southern, Troy, Navy and had under 18k fans this season. Where are you going with this?

It shouldn't be unreasonable to expect 30k given that they are the only DI team in the top market for cfb in the country.
I say this as one of the few UAB alums who ever attended any games.

Again, it is all just conjecture at this point, but I think a stadium that held 30k would probably have been too large. However, if you look at the success the Baron's had last year, I would think there is a better chance for people attending something in the city proper now than there was 10 years ago.

They actually buy those tickets, but they do give them out for free. I did not realize until someone posted on here the reason Alabama basketball games looked kind of empty was because people buy them for the Tide Pride points and often cannot or do not want to go to the games, esp during the week. I guess my point there is a purchased ticket is a purchased ticket.. although it does not look good for optics.

In 2013 they didn't even meet the minimum required by the NCAA (15,000) to stay division 1 football. They barely made the minimum in 2012.
The City of B'ham buys 5,000 tickets for $45 apiece to keep UAB above the minimum. They give the tickets away to employees, youth groups. LINK
Wouldn't you think that the city would use that money for other things it needs instead of supporting a football program?
And now a state representative has introduced a bill wanting the state taxpayers to support a football team. No thanks, I want my tax dollars to go elsewhere.

Pretty sure the cities of Auburn and Tuscaloosa along with college towns throughout the country by a certain number of tickets from their respective universities
Alabama legislators get courtesy tickets to the Iron Bowl, which can be the highest ticket in the state during some seasons.
I don't have an issue with the city of Birmingham supporting a local school with hopes of a ROI in terms of sales tax and hospitality revenue. Seems like good business to me
